Utah!

Red, they are due tomorrow am at 10 , but no pips, Marans are notoroiusly late I guess so if no pips in 24 hrs I should know. If you go before I know, its ok :) If you have not gone yet and they are duds, I will holler :) I do have 2 pullets qcu is growing out for me and I pick them up in July.... BUT I have found that chicks I hatch myself or get when they are little are much better socialized than bigger pullets that have not been handled as much, so I was hoping for at least 1 or 2 little babies. My BW Ameraucana pullets i got at Chickenstock are psycho, I cannot come near them, they go crazy when i go out to the run. So the little chicks I just hatched from the same breeder will hopefully be much sweeter....so far so good they are really friendly. When they get closer to POL I will likely find a place for the older girls. They should start laying any day. I am learning to avoid buying older girls unless they have been "pets" like mine :)

Will see about these Marans tomorrow hopefully!

Daloorashens, thanks for the crossies!

Sundance, way to go on those eggs! See?? Tougher than we think those little swimmers! I am really happy so many are viable. :ya

I have decided which Polish to keep from Hattie---Masked Villian is def turning black, and looking pretty girlie. I have another one for sure turning blue and one that will go blue or black, it is right in the middle with black on the back but lighter on the sides....if anybody wants them let me know. I am pretty sure the blue is a girl, and the mixed has a smaller crest that makes me think boy, but not sure. Will put up some better pics tomorrow. I promised myself I would try for a black girl, and if I got one, no keeping the rest  They are cute little babies! They are about 10 days old.

Cynthia I am so tempted to get the marans...

We got home last night from a baby shower for my niece and went out to do feeding. Hubby called me into the chicken run and I almost stepped on a baby bunny, he had found another. I figure they are maybe 2 weeks. We have a couple of netherland dwarf that have been running around for a few months. Didn't think she could get pregnant. Not sure how they ended up int the run and I am not crawling under the shed to put them back....Soo I am going to have to try to bottle feed the little ones.

Glad you missed the chicken. But why did the chicken cross the road?
Cause the duck was on the other side!

oh boy...if only my mom wasn't allergic to bunnies! :) They're adorable. :)

ETA: they're still that tiny when they're two weeks old? I have duck growth mentality apparently.

Yep, first couple of weeks they grow hair and open eyes, they will double their size by 4 weeks. of course they are dwarf so they won't get big anyway.

the chicks are quite concerned that the babies are in the brooder with them. (separated by some wire at the moment.)

Sundance, that's great! I'm glad to hear that so many eggs made it through the long weekend alright!

Lisa, haven't gone to see Cynthia yet, but I'll keep you posted as to when I'm going to head down there. I think I'll try and wait at least another day to give your eggs a chance. I hear you on the whole psycho chicken thing. Most of my hens that I had out in Tooele came from homes where they were never handled, so they got pretty worried about any human contact. The exceptions were my white Leghorn and the Marans, since they came from a home that had little kids around them. I am trying to handle all of the chicks that I have here daily. Especially the ones that will be staying with my mom. She loves animals, too, and she's the kind of person that likes to be able to walk right up and pet them.

Wow, I can sure start rambling when I get off on a subject. Stopping there!

Ok, my one Maran, the first pictured, is doing well. The other small one is having a hard time walking. I taped the legs. She keeps wanting to keep the right leg up. Not sure what is going on. I keep exercising her..I put her on the carpet and have her walk around. She seems to do fine with that, but I keep finding her on her side. When I put her up, she will stumble around for a while. I had the liner in there for a while, she did the same on it. Can't tell if she is keeping it pulled back or what. They are still young, so, she could be still figuring out the walking, but at this point, I am feeding and watering her. I dipped her beak in the water dish this morning instead of giving it to her, and she went right for that! So a good sign. I am hoping I'm not just babying her too much. I will let her go for the water on her today, see what she does. If anyone has the time and wants to work with her, then they can give it a try if she isn't doing this on her own by the time someone comes by. She is just a snuggle baby right now. Talks that sweet little chirp when you hold her because she is wanting a mama.

Oh my goodness, I just remembered Jill said something about her daughter possibly wanting the Marans..JILL, HATTIE, LOL..let me know!

On man blu! Those bunnies are adorable!! I can just feel that softness now. They look so cuddly.

Lisa hope the Maran eggs hatch for you! So remind me never to try and hatch Marans. It would drive me insane not to be able to see them developing and having such a low hatch rate.

Blujems love your bunnies. I had to look that breed of bunny up. Cuteness overload! Not only do you have baby goats and chicks but now you have bunnies! Too much fun being had by y'all.

Cynthia your little chicks are the sweetest. I still don't know how I was able to leave without any. I have messaged my sister but my guess is she is feeling a little overwhelmed right now with the 12 chicks I just took her. Plus I forgot she has 7 eggs that I helped her put in an incubator. Ha. She is only allowed 6 hens.

So if Lisa or Daloorashens wants them go ahead and let them. Lisa and Daloorashens, Cynthia showed me the egg shells they came from and they were beautiful eggs. Dark brown shells. I've never seen egg shells that color. My goodness to have eggs that color would be awesome.

Cynthia, I hope that other marans does well for you. It's so tough when things aren't great.

Lisa, I hope your marans hatch goes well.

I've only incubated 3 marans eggs, and I got two healthy chicks out of it. However, they weren't as dark as most. The breeder told me the hens had been laying all winter and were nearing the end of a cycle, so the eggs were lighter than usual. I hope the pullet starts with dark eggs. She's looking like she'll be very beautiful. The thing I DO like about BCM is they're easier to sex I think.
