Sundance - Sorry about your Polish.

Lisa - Congrats on your Marans hatch. Hope you have success with that foot.

Birdman - So sorry about your dog. Its hard to lose a friendly shadow.

Sphinx - I put dishpans with shavings in the nest box. Keeps the litter deep and are easy to clean if they do break. Would like to hear how the carpet works out.

This one was a long hatcher, and came out with crooked feet, but it seemed to correct the next day. The day after I noticed they were crooked, and tried taping individually, but they seemed to bend at awkward angles. Then tried pipe cleaner, then cardboard, to 'cast' them. Did not work. She is now 1 month old, and gets around fine. I'm worried that her feet will not hold her up when she gets to full weight. The next time I had crooked feet I did a tape boot (secure the toes on the bottom with a piece of tape, then place another piece over the top) as soon as she was out of the incubator, and it corrected in two days. Hint: don't use slick tape for the bottom piece, it slides and they start to get spraddle.

This is very interesting to me. I would not be surprised if they strengthen and get straighter as the chick gets older. Keep taking pictures of development

Tell us about your flock.

Yay!!! SashaT so glad you have the other little Polish chicks. I miss them! I really do. I should have chocolate in this batch of eggs! There are enough of them so I will be keeping my fingers crossed that I have a good hatch.

I've candled and after 3 days this is what they are looking like.
The ones in my Brinsea Mini Advance look like they are a bit ahead of the Hova-Bator ones. I hope I'm keeping the temp right in it.

Which one is this egg from?

Oops, sorry! It has been such a long, hectic day, and that's just the latest in a series of stupid mistakes I've made. I'm jealous of your mille fleur duncles (how are those different from mille fleur cochins?). That's about the only bantam breed that has ever tempted me, and boooooooy am I tempted.

The Duncles are smaller than the cochins. The Mille fleurs also seem to be more colorful. They are funny little chickens and very vocal but they are so little, I have Silkies Cochins and the Duncles that are bantams

i have a ee hen with badly crooked toes, she is the biggest of my ee's and she gets around fine, she just cant perch on anything thin. i got those girls when they were 16 weeks and the guy when finding out i did parrot rescue asked if i would buy her and of course i did and she has been the best laying ee of the 3 i have and is a joy to have in the flock :)

I got to see Venus! It was a nice round spot, right at the two o clock spot. Used a neighbors special glasses to see. Wow, can't imagine how big that sun is. That spot I saw...was a planet! Very small spot in front of that huge sun of ours. Pretty cool.

Thank you for the reassurance. She is a beautiful creamy white and gray, like a wool tweed. I have spent so much time doctoring her she is special to me.

Cynthia that picture was from the Brinsea here is one from the Hova-Bator
What do you think? Thats neat you got to look at Venus.

Sphinx glad you were able to have your get together. It has been windy here all day. Not fun.

Bird Man I love how you said your EE is "a joy to have in the flock". She is a lucky bird to have you care for her and MoriahQuilts yours will be too. They just have more character.

What's all this nonsense about not posting any more pictures of Cochins? Bah, humbug, I say!

I was out in the coop with my feathered friends...long story short, ended up trying to do what I was doing with one hand because my frizzle cochin (bantam) insisted on snuggling in my hand. The other cochin wasn't going to be outdone, so she perched on my thumb. (She had been on my shoulder, pecking at my little gold stud earring.) They are 8 weeks old they "shouldn't" have to need extra heat but it's so cold and they were quivering ever so slightly that I was installing a heavy hook to hang a heat light from...but ended up bringing them inside the house. (the poor Big Girls have to rough it out in the coop) Yeah, OK, so I spoil them. I admit it! I really really want some Mille Fleurs and Calico Cochin bantams...so I'm tickled pink that my new little cochin looks like she may be a Mille Fleur.

Next year when I do some rearranging of my flock, I plan on going that route, and getting good stock so I can start seriously breeding.

While my DH isn't looking....Cynthia, I think it was you who asked where my picture was when I posted pics of my graduating daughter and my mom. Cynthia, just for you, here's a picture of Howard and I.

Lisa, your Polish babies have settled in nicely. The presumed boy has been snuggling up with the Wyandotte baby whose gender keeps changing. LOL The presumed girl jumps around from chick to chick, but Clay seems to really like her a lot.
