Utah!

So Sphinx have your chickens stopped laying in your nesting boxes with carpet? Mine have ever since I put carpet in there. I don't know if it will change but every day now it is an Easter egg hunt for me.

. I'll give them a few more days before I take it out. I'm hoping they will get used to it. I put pine shavings over it to try and cover it up but that didn't work either. Just wondering if yours have done the same.

Hi auntie...my chickens never worried about the carpet..I also put the shavings in there, will soak up what they lay along with the egg! Maybe if you put them in there at night, just one night when it's dark, so they can see that it isn't going to be a bad thing after all? I know, some of us are trying to keep our chickens out of the nesting boxes to sleep, but maybe it would be worth a try so they can see it won't hurt them. I really don't think they will sleep in there if they have been roosting. Just a thought!

Saw cute little Whitni~Red.. she took some chicks home. Hope I did good picking out girls! Red, you are a sweetheart to come and get chicks for others, like Lisa during that chicken stock, is that what it was called? Wow, lots of traveling. I love it when you guys get my chicks..I get to watch them grow up. :)

Hey Cynthia, it was fun to see you again. Kind of funny that Little Red kept picking at my toes (Disclaimer: I went barefoot to avoid bringing any fun germs into Cynthia's yard

) That little tiny Silkie with the leg problem was sooooo precious! Oh. My. Goodness. I got these chickies home just fine - I think they napped most of the way. Dalooras, you're going to love them. These Amer/Leghorn mixes are darling. I had to get one for myself. I miss my Leghorn. Lousy raccoon.

Cynthia, I about died while I was getting the chicks settled in in the garage. The little Leghorn mix that I got for me wriggled out of my hand and fell to the garage floor. Pretty much, I was doing this:

She seems to be okay. I think her floof absorbed most of the impact, and she doesn't seem to be in any pain. She got a drink and was eating like there was no tomorrow when I left her. Good thing she was mine, too, and not one of Dalooras's. I'd have felt awful if I'd have hurt someone else's baby.

Sasha thinks it may be the smell that prevents the eggs from finding their way to the carpeted boxes. If you are using new carpet pieces, try to get rid of the carpet smell. Rub them in dirt or something to mask the smell if you think it might be the odor. (just thinking out loud)

They are SQ Bantam Polish-WC black, blue, chocolate, and cuckoo. They will be smooth or fizzle. I will keep you updated on the hatching. I love my little Polish also and I needed to have more.
I am SO stinking excited and hopeful that you'll get a couple little chocolate babies. :) When is hatch day?
What do the ameruconas look like when they are older?
You can google them for pictures, but they can be black, blue, lavendar, wheaten, blue wheaten, splash, etc. Very pretty and I find them very attractive simply because they don't have wattles, but muffs instead. :)

Took a few pictures of my big girls this evening as I was putting them in the coop for the night. :) (Also, see Howard's new avatar? I took that pic of his pretty Polish girl, Elvis, too.)

Goldie. I carried her like a baby. LOL

My Silver "Bullet"

Beautiful Hedwig. Kidasoto-she's a blue wheaten Ameraucana.

The Wyandottes are about 13 weeks old now, and Hedwig is about 4 months....getting close to egg-laying age! :)

Hey Birdguy, how often do you hatch out eggs from your Icelandics?

As often as I need to... I can send you eggs.. put them in the incubator or both...

I believe you were warned about them.. just can't stop... MUST HAVE MORE!!!!

I moved 65 pre-teens out to the barn to the grow out pen... I've lost track of how many are in there now... 120ish? plus the 2 broodies with their baby turkeys and the guineas... Only have about 50 more in the garage plus the 27 ducklings.... MUST SELL SOMETHING!!!

Nope, the chickens haven't minded the carpet at all. It was a remnant from a friend, and I'm not sure how long she'd had it around. I'd had it on my front railing for a couple days to air out (ok, truthfully, I just didn't have time to cut out the squares for a few days). Once I cut them out, I did put pine shavings over the top. But, my two laying girls haven't hesitated at all.

Thanks for the heads up on the tag alongs. Maybe if I get a house closed this month....

Red, I'm so glad your baby is ok. I suspect they're more resilient than we give them credit for.
