Utah!

Sasha, it sounds agonizing how long they're taking! I've made a chick bleed before like that, and it's devastating. I hope they hatch soon.

These are WORSE than labor! All of my labors were from 4-12 hours.

My parents actually own two properties down in St George (helped them buy them a couple years ago) and my BFF from elementary lives down there.

This is how I spent my morning:

I was out collecting eggs, and discovered this little guy had escaped from my neighbor's yard. She's leasing her pasture to a guy who is putting his new calves there until they're weaned. Houdini, as I've named him, managed to somehow get around 2 different fences (one being 5' tall). NO CLUE how he did it.

I'm also in St George, it gets so hot here, I added sprinkelers to the chicken pen just to cool them off, along with fresh watermelon :)

Hey thanks for the well wishes everyone! As I type this mom is outside with her chickens, while I get to see the baby work on zipping. :D this one is SO CLOSE.

Hi Jack...
I hope it is okay to post this here in the "Utah!" thread. If not I will take the verbal spanking.

I seemed to have failed in my choices at the pullet tank and now have two cockerels I need to be rid of.

They are approximately 2 month old bantams and very handsome lads. However, since I live in town I cannot have them letting the neighbors know that the sun is around.

Anyway, if anyone would like them or knows of someone that could take them or has any ideas, I (they) would be very appreciative.

Thanks!!!!

Handsome fellas, huh.

Man, is she talkative!!!

She was really beating the other eggs around the bator, so we took her out (had the spray bottle handy!) We weren't worried so much about the other pipped eggs, but for the one goopy baby who's blood vessel I nicked. She's just so goopy looking, but her nose is free so I'm not touching it again....I don't know if she'll make it.

Guy - Those are some pretty roosters. I hope you are able to find good homes for them. It is always good to post pictures, it makes the temptation much harder to resist

Sasha and Ducklover - Yaaaay for baby duckies!

Keep those pictures coming!

Sphinx - I say finders keepers on the little calf, he's pretty darn cute. Love the little knobby knees.

Update on the ducklings! They are taking F-O-R-E-V-E-R to hatch. Since it had been 36 hours for a few of them since they pipped, with no progress, we helped those few. Picked away some of the shell they had broken, but was still kinda there. Pulled away some of the membrane. I still see a tiny bit of blood left in a couple of them, so I didn't dare do more than what they had loosend. I did nick one baby's blood supply...didn't see it at all until it started bleeding. OH. MY. GOSH. I don't ever want to do that again. Bleeding stopped fairly quickly but poor Sierra about lost it. That baby is doing OK.
As for the baby that pipped the wrong end, she hadn't made any progress since I had made a hole for her beak yesterday, so I flaked away a little more shell and outer membrane, and saw little tiny veins with a little blood still, so spritzed her and put her back. Here's a picture of the upside down baby, and a (slowly) zipping baby next to her. :) (Yes, my daughter used a single heart, and a double heart to mark the eggs instead of X's and O's. She's so cute.

They sure are talkative little things, and respond to us every time we talk to them.

We are able to see into the holes and see that most of them are not the typical black and white Anconas. Looks like we have a chocolate and a couple lavendar or blues. :)

Haha-the baby that is trying to zip just got a little frustrated and started screaming it's little head off. Non-stop! Too funny. One keeps sticking it's bill out and nibbling on the egg, one baby keeps doing that little lower lip quiver thing that ducks do....it's fun to see some personalities coming alive through just watching their little bills!
You are doing great, like an expert!!
