Utah!

OMG Sundance, I want to watch! I wish I had a rooster that I was willing to donate at the moment. Did my rooster act as textbook so she could get a better feel for anatomy? I can't wait to hear how it goes.

Hattie, I'm so glad it wasn't your polish. I have doves crash into my house allllll the time. In fact, I have a really gross, greasy smear on my front window that I need to clean off. Good luck with the remaining eggs hatching.

Good luck with your hatch, Lisa.

I'm getting so, so so tempted to do a hatch. I don't want chickens in my house all winter though, so I need someone to want the babies when I'm done. I'm thinking I'd hatch 3-4 legbar mom (?? dad) and 3-4 marans.

Well I went ahead and set my eggs at 7:30...they looked pretty good, and I could hardly stand watching them just sit there lol! So we are hoping for a Dec 19th or earlier hatch. Cynthia, thanks for the advice on the little eggs! I have them in there now standing up, no turning for a day or two, per the seller on shipped eggs. Will start turning Friday. And will keep the temps at the lower end. They are in my still air so that will help, the small eggs will be down low :)

Sphinx, I am sure you could sell chicks on KSL as straight run, "Christmas Chicks"! You should join in. How cute to have babies on Christmas, right? Are your Polish mating yet? Boy now that I have these in I am really wanting to just hatch everything in sight and get all my spring chicks bought now lol! I fell off the wagon, hard. It sure will be a pain in the butt in Feb though when they are getting big and need to be transitioned out to the coop from the garage. Then I remembered I have those chicks ordered for march 4...So I will be doing this for awhile, again, I suppose haha! Maybe I can get all my babies by then at least and be done with it. Famous last words.

Hattie, Crossing fingers and toes for you. the Polish babies are adorable.

Sphinx... my BO during the summer was averaging 4 eggs/wk, since it has cooled off she's been laying once a week or so, but she's about 2 1/2 yrs old, too.... My blue orpington pullet has averaged 4.5 eggs/wk since she started and her eggs are definitely steadily getting bigger, but again... I am not running lights, so that's just from the daylight hours she gets from outside... I have 2 flocks, I guess. I have my laying hens here at my house which have a large outside run so they get the light from the sunshine, then I have the ones I will use for breeding in pens at my mom's place, which is all covered up and protected for winter, so there are lights running there but only for the daylight hours... Both of the orpingtons are here at my house, I'm not planning on breeding them...

Good luck with your chicks, madchicken!!

The desire to hatch is STRONGLY outweighed by my desire NOT to have birds in the house for 3 months, so, no incubating till after Christmas for me!

Your Rooster is living at the clinic with the meat rabbits he is going to be first done.

Ah yes, I've become addicted to the cuteness of bantams so another bantam breed is in the works. It's so much easier making room for a bantam as opposed to large fowl. This is good....and bad. It means more chickens. It appears that my chicken habit is incurable. My husband has given up keeping track, thank goodness.

You are so lucky to be able to do that. I love the bantums as well.

Well, My FBCM Rooster's days are numbered....He has been getting very aggressive lately. Every time my back is turned he attacks. Luckily he hasn't caused any damage yet, just hitting me with his chest. But I don't trust him for anything. He will not be let out of the coop and run again, at least not for awhile. I won't put up with it.

Madchicken, so sorry you lost some chickies. I'm sure their momma is doing her best.

I don't have any bantams, but I do have the Icelandics and they're smaller than the rest of the birds I have out there <3 I would love to get some bantam OEG's at some point in the distant future. Gotta have room for them, first. I think it will be a while before I do

Blu, ugh. Sorry to hear that about your roo. I had to do several humbling sessions with my EE roo before he would stop attacking me, but he still goes after my BF on occasion. I highly recommend carrying him around by the feet for all of the ladies to see, and even some of the other animals. I may or may not have also booted mine a couple of times

He got booted last night....Funny thing is as soon as I turn around to face him, he runs. I will see what he does in a few days. May have to try the upside down thing.....He had me a little angry last night.
