MAdchicken... you have to have a barred hen to make sexlinks withe black/red cross anyway... the barring is then passed to only the roos.. they get the white spot on the head and the hens are all black so your RIR/Dominique cross should yield sexlinks, but the RIR/Australorp will not... there is a really good thread on sexlinks here on BYC that explains it really well, fascinating stuff!! Now for red sexlinks, you have to have a Red roo over a predominantly silver hen.. RIR over Delaware for example, maybe even your RIR over Cotton.. haha.. not sure about that one if the colors don't breed true but anyway.. I should have that sexlink thread marked... let me see if I can find it and post the link... I know I have seen people say they have blue sexlinks, and that is when you put a blue roo over a barred hen... so the roos will have the white spot and the hens will be all black or all blue...

thanks for link it was helpful. It looks like i need a white roo to breed with the australorp to get a sex link from her. I dont know what the neighbors will say about another rooster. But a white rock would give me a more options if i want sexlinks with the hens that i have now.

I also brought Apricot in to see if we can get some chicks to hatch and not freeze. They are due friday. I brought her in on monday. She is getting used to us but still complains a little. She is in my brooder pen.

Getting down to 9 degrees tonight!

Hope my babies are warm enough, put down tarps on the grow out pen..which I only have my Favorelle and my/sundances, Partridge. He didn't crow today. Tooo cold I guess, would work right. ? lol.. he sure acts like a boy, it's fun to watch, I haven't had a cockerel around for a long time. I usually get them placed pretty quick.
Sundance, let me know when you are going back for your pups check up. Sure hope the protein diet works for the little guy. He's been through so much.

I'll be in Orem tomorrow, Can you bring him in the morning to the center st clinic

Funny pic from my webcam this morning. The gals are gathered under the heat lamp...My polish is up on the roost just above the heat lamp
with her head upside down looking at the other girls as if to say "Girls, don't you know that heat rises??"

Eek! My DH works for DWS, they had a shooting at the Taylorsville office this morning....scary, people get so desperate and upset at the holidays, I am so grateful my DH is safe and the workers at this office are ok. So sad!
