Utah!

Woo-hoo Lisa!!! What cute chickies!! Yay that all 3 hatched!!

Wow, look at all that snow, guys!! Mine are getting used to it... they come out and peck around and then go back inside, then back out, etc, etc...

Red, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! and yay for a laptop!!

Whittni.. looks like perfect chicken weather for you!!

Sundance... sorry about your cute dog, I hope the changes help it get better faster!

Cynthia,,, YAY for a puppy!! I really think my boys would love a dog, I would prefer a bigger dog, like a Golden, DH wants a Yorkie, go figure... which is funny since he says he doesn't want a house dog, I was like... ummm... yorkies are house dogs, haha!

I had Leghorns when I was younger... they are flighty but not too crazy... definitely lots of personality and great layers... one I had was a mouser, too, haha never had one go broody, I usually only had 2 or 3 at a time, so didn't have pecking problems, either... One of the things I like about the Leghorn EE, (boys named her Spot because of all the speckles)... LOTs of personality..

So, the mystery eggs, I'm 99% sure it's both of the Delawares, I don't have any Marans or other darker egg layers at my house, they are at my mom's... The only other ones that are POL are the bantam cochins, who are also overdue, but again, I'm not running lights here... The pullets younger than them are coming up on 20 weeks, and not really red yet, and I think they are EE's, too, so there's my deductive reasoning, haha!

Candled my eggs last night and took 6 out... a few more I"m not sure about, but otherwise, good development in the rest!! So I'm down to 42... However, the eggs that are from the pen with the Amer cockerels are looking sketcy, so I"m thinking those boys better get their act together, the ones from the Marans pen are all developing, and most of the shipped eggs are also looking good YAY!!!!!

I just had a total "DUH!!" moment tonight. I have not gone out in the dark to the coop for a while (too cold!), I try to take care of the duties during the daytime. I have a timer/light out there, during the day it is ticking. No big deal. Well I looked on the web cam a few hours ago, the light bulb was not on out there....it was burned out. All my girls were sound asleep at 5 pm in the dark coop. Snoozing right along. This could have happened weeks ago...so DUH no wonder all my layers are quitting. Kinda funny, I feel like a dope for not checking that out before. I never thought about the bulb going out, only about it being switched on and the timer plugged in. Once they stop is it very hard for them to get going again? Anybody know? I had 21 laying and it has gone down to 7. I put a new bulb in faster than you can say Bob's your uncle.

Hey Dalooras! My leghorn is a great mouser too! She is always the one I will see with a mouse, then the others come up and try to get it. If they do, then it's play tug time. I would say poor mouse, but they are all over the chicken food at night.
I go out, have to admit..I have talked to the mice. Because of the red lamp, they can't see very well at night from where they are in the nursery. I try to be quiet as a mouse..

..but when I get up to nursery, they freeze, because they heard something. There are those cute little ears, and beady little eyes staring blindly out into darkness, so I say, you cute little fart, I chuckle, and say, stay out of there..then off they go. They are cute. These are the small ones. Just cute little critters, but I don't want the cute little critters.
And oh, was going to ask, is anyone else having problems with the sparrows hanging out in the coop?? My goodness! I open the door and out fly a good 6 or more of them. I have no food in the coop. It's all outside. Trying to discourage the cute little farts and the sparrows, but they keep going in there..guess they want to be warm too. :/

Lisa, so waiting for pictures. I was hoping to come on this morning to see fluffy babies..can't wait. You are probably out with your chickens, where I am headed now.

Cold out there this morning, but it finally stopped snowing! Come on sunshine, will make a muddy mess...but oh, it will be nice to see sunshine.

Off to PT this morning.

Wait! When, what day, Red's Birthday...oh man, better late than never...Happy Birthday to Red!!

Still can't find the durn camera. Got a little better phone pics though... here ya go. OVERLOAD. Sorry, it is hard to pick which ones to post. They are just too cute when they sleep in a little pile. :D

Lisa, they are so cute! You have paints!! They are going to be so pretty! Thanks for posting. You know what..? You actually had a pretty good hatch for shipped showgirls..and for you to get all three showgirls! They are darling. I would have such a hard time deciding on one of those. Congrats!

Had to go back and look again, looks like they all have real thick bow ties! Nice!

Yes, all bowties, but no beards on any, my Maynard was bearded too so I am kind of missing that.... I am pretty happy with the hatch, I wish more than four eggs would have developed, but to get 3, and all 3 be showgirls, was better than what I expected after throwing so many eggs out. They sure are friendly little buggers, I think they all think I am mama. Everytime I walk away from the brooder they scream and holler and jump up trying to see over the edge where I went lol. My son says they are my "fan club". haha. I love it.

Hahaha, oh my gosh Lisa. love the babies! I am cracking up about the one on the far left in the last three pictures. You can totally see it going to sleep

Glad they all hatched for you!

We got cheated on snow. Not even a half inch. Poo! It is mighty chilly today, though.

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes

I had such a wonderful day yesterday. And no one got me an incubator! Phew! My mom had me scared about it for a minute. She gave me a big, heavy package and I thought, "Oh, no." It turned out to be a sewing machine, so I'm still safe.

I STILL don't know who laid the white eggs.

Cynthia, cute puppy! How old is she? I can't remember if you said that already, sorry. I've been so tired and have skimmed most of the posts lately.

I know there's more going on with the forum family, sorry. I'm kind of foggy about what I've read. Adjusting to a 40 hr job after a 10 hr job is draining. But I still love my job.

Getting down to 9 degrees tonight!

Hope my babies are warm enough, put down tarps on the grow out pen..which I only have my Favorelle and my/sundances, Partridge. He didn't crow today. Tooo cold I guess, would work right. ? lol.. he sure acts like a boy, it's fun to watch, I haven't had a cockerel around for a long time. I usually get them placed pretty quick.
Sundance, let me know when you are going back for your pups check up. Sure hope the protein diet works for the little guy. He's been through so much.
