I can't wait for even an extra half hour of light in the upcoming days. By the time I get home from work, it's about dark and my girls have gone to bed. I miss my chickens :/

Where's Birdman? We've got a bunch of peeps on here that have been quiet lately, but usually he's on here every so often.

i am here, just have not had much to say is all. so my welsummer is laying again, nice jumbo eggs. sadly they are light in color but hey they are eggs and there are lots of them so i am happy

I still have that lavender Orpington..she is now almost 10 weeks old. Very pretty. Outside where she can go in our out of a heat lamp area. Nor doors, just wood to hide behind when the wind kicks up. She's doing well out there. So, if there is a train going..let me know if anyone wants a lavender girl.

There you are Brad! Glad to hear your Wellie is laying. Does it have speckles? I love the Wellies for that reason more than the dark.

Speaking of dark, man, that blue hen lays really dark eggs. Arielle has marans, I am thinking that somewhere, someone, jumped a fence..there has to be marans in her to be laying that dark of an egg. And, she is starting to lay larger eggs. Can't say that about my sex link. That is really strange. By now, I would think she would be laying a pretty good sized egg. It's pretty small. If this keeps up, she may be going when some others start. My NN and Non NN, should start next month. Will be interesting to see what the NN lays. I think the non nn looks like a sex link, has the star ring around her neck, and is red with more white than my other sex link, she is sweet.

Yes, I got that call last night. It made my day. Best present of all. He sounds soo happy. Had a baptism last weekend. He loves the people so much. He kept saying ya'll. He kept saying how beautiful it was there. He said, Holy Cow mom! It's like driving in a Utah canyon every time, only without the climb. A lot of wooded area there. He loves the cardinals. I told him about them, I used to live in Florida, and when he finally saw one, he got pretty excited. There are a lot of different animals there, he started naming them off. ) We're animal lovers.

Sure hope everyone else had a great Christmas Day. Sure have a lot of snow here. Snowed all day again today. Yesterday morning, it was so pretty the way it was falling when we got up. Just watched out the window a bit before starting the opening of presents.

Red, you will love the Wellie eggs, like Brad said, they do get big too, beside the fact that they are pretty.

I have to add, and whoever started it, is a good thing..think it was Lisa..I also love all of you here. What a great bunch of folks, and I think we make a pretty good team when it comes to cheering each other on, or dong the train, or meeting up some where half way for chickens/chicks..roos... You can almost feel those virtual hugs through the screen when someone needs a hug. Love you guys!

sometimes i will see speckles but most the time i do not anymore. and i want to say how much i love all of you. its like a family on this thread. i love how helpful everyone is too. its great.

My girls are such stinkers. I got another little white egg in the coop yesterday, and I think it's because the barometric pressure squeezed it out of her. I am thinking more and more that it's my Leghorn. They're such pretty little eggs. They almost look like they have a slight peach or golden hue because they have big, fat yolks inside. That's the only egg I've gotten for at least a week, I believe. I think my RIR is mad at me for letting it snow. She used to talk to me all the time when I was out in the yard. Now she won't even peck at my pants and be bossy with me. Ugh, it makes me depressed not to have more time with the chickens.

Cynthia, how old is your Wellie? I know I have the age marked somewhere in my journal, but I don't want to look it up, ha. Ours is sure red in the face, and getting friendlier. She used to be very flighty. I can stroke her back and even pick her up now and then. I think that one of my favorites to pick up is the Exchequer, though. She's so chatty. I love her chatty, scratchy little voice. And Flekka's, the Icelandic. Where the other chickens go "Buk buk buk BAGAW!" when they do the egg song, Flekka's is much higher. It sounds like "Buh buh bagawk".

Okay, I'm rambling. Time for bed.

so much snow here. I went to the coop yesterday and had 10 eggs. Guess they don't mind the snow. 7 were huge and 2 were smaller silkie size. Did not going to Orem as the roads are just too bad, Hopefully tomorrow. I am just going to stay in and watch movies today. Need to stay off the computer so I don't order any more eggs

smart move..I have been bad and looking, don't know why, I don't have room for eggs. Good thing my bators are gone. Just have still air.

My 7 from my friend are due to go into lock down on New Years Day, my little Nankin is still viable!.. and the pure RIR's are doing well, I have 7 of those doing well. I really want a sweet RIR. They lay great sized eggs, and often.

Man, my EE mix is a lay a holic! She is like a leghorn all right. She is laying almost every day...and when I open the door, she fluffs up at me and screetches like those raptors noises they made up for Jerrasic Park movies. Serious, every time..I just laugh, and if I have opened the nest box where she is I just pat her on the back. She doesn't like it, but oh well. She gives pretty green eggs.

Sundance, the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center up in Ogden loves to help birds of prey. I could arrange to get the owl from your house to there, but getting to Utah county would be tricky. Call them and see if they can help: (801) 814-7888. Let me know if you want me to do owl transport.

It sounds like your Xmas day was a lot of fun.

Madchicken, I get such a kick out of seeing the mama with her babies.

The Wildlife rehab center is going to take the owl, I just need to get her there. Has anyone been out on the roads today?
