Utah!

Urban, maybe she just wants to sleep in the nest box, I know mine do! If they have light enough to see, sometimes they will go back to where they like it best. I don't hear about comets going broody too often. Having said that, I haven't heard of leghorns going broody. I have a leghorn mix, that acts like she is. I kicked her off of the nest today after she had been sitting on her egg for a while. It is cold out there..only 12 degrees right now, I'm sure many are in a box, but I don't bother in the winter, because they can see to get back in the box. Just watch her tomorrow...and notice if she is making a different sound, a cluck, cluck sound. You will know if it's different. :) And, if she doesn't want to get off of the egg she laid. Good luck!

I feel so bad! I must not have locked the gate to my Silkie roos run this morning and he and my RIR banty roo have been fighting all day. My Silkie's head and face is all bloody and most of the feathers on top of his head have been pulled out. And my RIR's wattle and comb is covered in blood and it looks like he might have a torn comb. Its to late to bring them in and clean them up, i wouldn't dare put them back out in the cold with wet feathers. It looks like most of the blood is dry. I AM SO MAD AT MYSELF!!!

i am sorry I HOPE THEY HEAL OK

UrbanChickenDad, she could be broody, or she could like the coziness of the box in these cold temperatures.

Chiko, that's a lot of snow!

My chickens are refusing to go outside. Well, except for two who prefer the other henhouse to lay eggs- So, they're wandering all the way over to the other henhouse, laying their eggs, and then going right back to where they were before.

Egg production is sloooooow. Even though I have 11 hens who *could* lay, I'm getting 2-4 eggs a day. The oldest two aren't even a year old yet. Lazy bums.

I set 6 legbar eggs this afternoon and one more, probably a speckled sussex. One of the legbars has the tiniest crack on the top- she laid it on the henhouse floor instead of the nest boxes. Not sure if it'll make it, but I thought I'd try.

OOOh I am so excited

Lots of snow for you guys! Mine are making trails in the snow, I throw their treats out on the snow and they come out, peck around and then go back in...

Cynthia, I still think it's funny your leghorn EE is trying to go broody, hehe
urbanchickendad... When they are broody they act different and puff their feathers up and don't like to be bothered and scream at you if you try to touch them in the box and make a cute cluck-cluck sound like Cynthia said....

Mine are slow to lay, also, but I am not adding light at all, so part of me is happy to be getting any eggs at all!!

Going to go put my remaining eggs in lockdown... wish me luck I'm nervous and excited!!

Madchicken... roos can be pretty naughty, that is for sure!! They should be ok til tomorrow, I would think when you can clean them up...

Fanny is super cute! I'm afraid she might be going broody though :/
Did you see Cleo? She's so funny. She was the last to come out, and certainly the last to go back in. She came up to the porch about an hour ago, I opened the door and she ran in. Then she wandered in my living room, ate some cabbage, cupcake, and leftover lasagna, and we took her back outside. She's adorable and sooo pretty. I sure hope she goes broody. I'm keeping her for A LONG time.

Which one is Cleo again..the sex link? I know mine is the friendliest bird out there besides my leghorn. She lays almost every day, but she is laying small eggs, very unusual for them. Hoping she will come around.
