Utah!

Pl I went a bit crazy and ordered some chicls to be delivered Feb 4. I bought some buttercups some leghorns Rhode island red, Gold laced wyandots and dominiqurs. I;ve never ordered chicls before. What I don't keep I plan on selling either through ksl or chicken stock

Happy New Year, everyone! Please be safe.

I made it to the end of the year without getting more chickens! WHEEEE!! It wasn't easy, though. Especially when you guys go and keep hatching all of these lovely eggs................

So, I think I may have some insight as to where some of my chickens in Tooele have been disappearing to. Remember how my Dominique, my GLW, and my adoptive BO just vanished? Well, now one of my black Am's and my EE roo are missing. There are no feathers on the ground or signs of a struggle or a predator in the yard. Sooo my boyfriend is beginning to wonder if he shouldn't check the animal shelter out there. Why? Because of his creepy neighbors out back that shot his horse before and other garbage. We think they're either swiping the chickens or taking them to the pound. Or calling animal control. It's still a guess at this point. So, I got a game cam for my birthday, and I'm really tempted to find somewhere out there to hide it and see what exactly is going on. Sorry for the bad news all.

So did you call animal control. The game cam is a great idea.

I'd definitely get a game cam, Red. That's so frustrating that you lost more. I wonder if it could be a bird of prey? If they were to swoop down and grab a chicken, there wouldn't be feathers left probably.

Sundance, you DID go a little crazy! I love the comb on those buttercups. So unique.

These aren't my ancona ducks but they look pretty much exactly the same as mine...only I have more variation than is shown here..(I have 21)

this is what the ducklings look like..

Happy New Year's Everybody!

Still waiting...I do have a pygmy doe that came last night.
I have one FBCM egg that has pipped and is chirping....none of the others have pipped yet that I can see yet. Still crossing my fingers that they are just slow.
Have one more doe that is due and still waiting on her.
Luckily my dog didn't get pregnant, I am very relieved about that.

Birdguy, those ducklings are just adorable! How many eggs a week would you guess one ancona lays?

BluJems, that little doe is such a sweetheart! Yay for no pregnant dogs. I hope the rest of your special deliveries go well, especially the goat. Don't get me wrong, I'm dying for more FBCM, but goast just are more exciting to me.

I candled my eggs this morning. 7 of them are 90 hours in, and the 8th is 72 hours in. ALL EIGHT are going. The brown egg is a little harder to see through, so I'm not 100% sure I see veining, but I'm pretty sure. Here's my crack baby:

Yay Sphinx, so far so good!

Blujems, that baby is ADORABLE! She looks so cute sitting in the bowl on the scale, you can see how small and sweet she is. Congratulations! Hope the next one comes soon, and chicks do well :) Not sure if you read, I fried my eggs at 104 by accident, turned them down as soon as i saw it...but I still see some that made it. Crossing fingers! Before that, every single one that I could see in (some were too dark) was viable and alive.
I LOVE the little white hat on top of that baby. I am counting my lucky stars she was born in the winter so I am not tempted as badly to try and buy her :p She really is the cutest one I have seen so far! I showed my DH and he was saying "Oh! A black and white one!!!" he likes that color too. Congrats again on the new addition to your herd! (Are goat groups called herds? I have no idea lol)

Yep goat herds....I am hoping the other one kids soon. This baby needs some company before it is totally spoiled.
the egg is still cheeping....I hope someone else hatches too. of course the pip is on the bottom so we cant see it. the egg is rocking though.
The temp is on the low side 98-99 no matter what we do of course the house is a little cooler the last few days too, so maybe they are just taking a little longer because the temp is a little lower.

sphinx? Crack Baby? I must have missed something.

I hope some of the Ameraucana eggs hatch....

Blujems, hope that egg hatches soon.

As to my hatch: I collected my legbar eggs for a week. A couple days ago, my silly legbar laid on the floor instead of in the nest box, and the bottom of the egg (the air cell part) has a bit of a crack in it. Because I was desperate to hatch it, I set it even with the crack. I'm calling it my "crack baby". I didn't think it would actually develop, but decided to try anyway. here's candling of the bottom where the crack is:

I still think there's a better than 75% chance it will quit, but you never know.
