Thank you for any help or advice.

Yay blujems! So glad the last one is looking good!
You are TORTURING me with that baby goat. I would snap that one up in a minute if it were warmer weather, we are just going nuts over how cute she is, she is absolutely perfect. How cute you play dress up too haha!
Lilwanis, I am very interested in the Houdans, I have not run across any private breeders..I went with McMurray over Meyer as they sold them sexed rather than straight run. I really like the way they look, and have heard they are quite full of personality. I have 10 ordered, no idea what kind of quality i will be getting. I ordered several to cover any losses in shipment, roosters, etc. so that I can be sure to get a couple girls from the batch. I can get you pics to see if you want to order some from them, or if you are interested in any of my extras. I hope they are decent quality, I thought I would see if I like them well enough to possibly get a rooster down the road..I keep toying with the idea of choosing one breed to work with and having the courage to keep a rooster, I am allowed to have them but keep worrying about my neighbors.

On the houdan thread, there are two lines (both are out of reach here). One was started from Cackle Hatchery stock (the U of Arkansas) and the other was started from McMurray stock (located in Canada). The Canadian birds have the better mottling and have won awards there. I have been thinking about ordering some from both places. Other hatcheries are dismissed on that thread. McMurray had some issues with hardiness and cross beaks a while back, but not sure if that is the case any more (the comment I saw was from 2+ years ago). Definitely let me know how your chicks turn out. Since I am ordering meaties, I will be able to meet the minimums for shipping them. I really can't tell you how excited I was to see your post!

I keep forgetting to ask....we are looking for a chicken train for a showgirl from Logan to Orem (Cynthia's!) If anybody is making that journey please let us know if you can help!

My DH might be able to help out. He may have a trip to IF in the next two weeks. I will post on here if the trip is confirmed.

And I thought our -2 yesterday was bad..it's 3 degrees right now. It is supposed to start warming up now, clear up into the teens! At night, 20 and maybe low 30 's in the day..I like that better. If it hits a little above 32, maybe some of those ice sickles will melt. Watch where you walk everyone!

Here are some pictures of my baby Nankin that hatched just before 6 this morning. yaay, she came early.

She would duck under the towel when she heard noises, like me coming in and talking.
She thought the towel was mama I guess. I'm glad, it's keeping her quiet. The others
probably won't hatch until tomorrow afternoon, or later.

She talked to me. When I put her under my chin to snuggle her, she snuggled right
back.

Not really this orange, but shows the shape of her head and face.

She is the color of that wing hanging a bit, but the head is darker.

-25 TheBirdGuy? UGHHHHHHH!

I just went out to give my girls a treat. One of my eggs was split. I took it inside, and within 10 minutes, I can't find the split anymore, and I can't remember which egg was split. So, I could be getting an unpleasant surprise as it thaws. LOL My poor frizzle chick's water was totally frozen. I am so glad that I actually grabbed the bottle instead of just eyeballing it and being happy it was still mostly full. I keep the light shining down on it, but I guess that wasn't enough with this cold weather. I'm thinking I'm going to put her with the general population at night. I hope they are nice to her and let her cuddle. She's been out there a good long time, but separate from them. She is still sooooo tiny.

My golden laced wyandotte is holding her right wing funny; I am afraid she injured it. I have no idea how, or what to do. I'm hoping it heals up on its' own.

Cynthia, that little nankin is so cute! Hope her friends hatch soon.

Cyndiloohoo, the problem is, most people don't have their birds separated out into breeding pens right now. I know several great breeders, but most of them just mix everyone together in the wintertime. http://utahwarmblood.com/ has black copper marans, light sussex, coronation sussex, and ameraucanas, but she usually doesn't have hatching eggs available til March. There's also a guy named Steve down in Utah county that has beautiful BCM. Last time I talked to him though, he refused to sell hatching eggs because the hatch rate on BCM is kind of rough, and he got sick of dissatisfied customers. I personally have a black copper marans pair, a cream legbar pair, and a lavender ameraucana hen, but they're all mixed together right now, so the baby daddy is up in the air.

Sundance, that black copper marans cockerel is sure turning into a gorgeous bird. He's kind of a jerk though- he wouldn't share his part of the apple with the hens. Kept running away with it. He's also fighting a bit with my legbar rooster. Legbar rooster's comb is a bit beat up, but the BCM looks fine. Did the surgery bird end up getting eaten?

Yesterday we were asked to transport a bird from SLC to the wildlife rehab center. When I took the owl I told them I could do transport for other animals. They were very grateful as this is a big issue for them. Turns out the cute bird was small Grebe. I also am attaching photos of Out GREAT grandson mac. He is 3 and soo cute. He was teaching me how to work my camera. How funny is that.

I have both ameraucana and FBCM...unfortunately everyone has pretty much stopped laying right now. I am only getting maybe 2 eggs a week. Hopefully they start laying again soon.
