Utah!

Lisa...how is your other little chickie doing?  I hope it will make it.  :fl

So far she is still perky and eating and drinking. Just in the kennel still, until we can get a good scab over going on :)
Love those Olive Eggs, yay! You better get that pullet this time!

It has been a busy day at our house today. Another Grandaughter was born. Look at this one! She is a chunk compared to the other, and look at all that blonde hair! Usually the blondes...are bald lol.

Who needs rabbits when you have kids like ours? 3 grand kids in 7 months time. Better raise that monthly I amount I stash away for Christmas. :p

I am so excited I really can't even say!!! Really, I'm just so glad that the little changes I made seem to have worked, so I don't feel like such a failure.. One hatched last night, the other 2 hatched this evening... including the one under the broody bantam!! I was able to get both of the other chicks under her tonite, no problem at all... she's looking like she will be a great little broody mama!! Will take pics tomorrow when they're fluffy=)

We don't have any lights out there, I figured if they need a break in the winter then they can have it. I'm sure soon it will warm up to our standard winter weather and things will get back to normal.

How do silkies handle the cold? My daughter really wants one, I'm not sure how it would fare in the winter. I don't heat the coop...
My silkies seem to do fine with the cold but i do have lamps that keep my coops above 20 degrees. i Have a lamp in one corner that stays on 24/7 and during the day if its really cold (under 10) all the bantams seem to hang out under the lamp or inside the coop except one. She is my special hen (wry neck) but she does hang out under the coop were i have a couple straw bails. Sometimes on really cold nights i have found them tucked up under a large hen to keep warm but have many times found them in a nest box all fluffed up keeping warm. Sometimes i will find two sharing a box. I would suggest getting 2 hens over just one.

Lisa, your granddaughter is gorgeous!! Congratulations!

Delarooshens, congrats on all three of your babies hatching. That's very neat.

My five year old woke me out of a dead sleep this morning to say he heard chirping. I went to the incubator, and three of my eggs have pipped. Considering day 21 doesn't start until Friday around 7pm, I'm a little surprised. I'm working on getting the hatch cam up and going, but since they're so early, I don't think anything will happen for a while.

Aww Lisa, she is darling! Congratulations! They are so precious. You are lucky you have one to snuggle one. She is close by right?
I won't get a chance of doing that until Aug. It's been a while. You are doing what we did for a while, babies on the way left and right. How fun!

Dalooras..my son that is in the hospital is not the one on a mission. This son has Spina Bifida..and has had problems off and on all of his life. Just not any lately that has landed him in the hospital. He is feeling better than he has in a long time, with all of those good electrolytes in him. He needed some potassium the other day. He's needed two bags of blood. A lot of anti-biotics..different kinds. A clot removed..huge. He says it's soo good to be able to bend his leg again. It sounds like his white blood cells are coming down, slowly but surely. He will need a couple of surgeries, but, has to wait because of the coumadin, blood thinner. If need be, it can be reversed so he can have one of the surgeries..but we'll see.

Waiting for the first part of next week..into the 40's! Sweater weather! he he...

Lisa she is beautiful. My goodness you are a lucky one. Two grand babies.

so happy you got chickies!

Sphinx! Seriously you too?! My chicks never come early that's why I never think that mine are going to ever hatch because around here 19 days is hatch day. Hahahaha

Get that hatch cam going. I love hearing those little chirps.

Cynthia I'm so glad your boy is doing better. What a relief. Now just to get him through those surgeries. What are the surgeries? Are they to get rid of the blood clot and infection? I don't know if you followed the couple that were in the news last year. They were having their 2nd child with spina bifida and were trying to get the insurance company to help pay for some new surgery that could be done while still in the womb to close up the whole on the babies back. Anyway they are my daughters next door neighbors. The sweetest people. Through them I having been learning more about spina bifida.

I lost a yound silkie last night. she was about 6 months old and had been healthy, She was dead in the coop this morning. Can't determine why. I am pretty sad as she was a sweet pretty bird.

Sundance--So glad to hear your dog's leg is healing!!! What a relief!

Cynthia--How very fun for you to get such deeply colored olive eggs when you've been wanting some! And to be looking forward to having even more intensely colored ones from the chicks!
I am so glad your son is being able to find out about treatments he needs and get them. Best wishes for how it all goes.

Things are pretty good with my birds. My rooster is sleeping in the nest because it's so cold (& maybe also cuz his feet have been hurting him some?). I just got some fresh straw to stock it with & am also going to spread some on part of the sand floor for warmth cuz I hear sand can be cold in the winter.

Sundance, I'm so sorry you lost that silkie. It would be difficult, not know how come.

Red, I found an awesome rescue operation for you; it's too bad that it's in CO. I'll c&p what they said:

HEN RESCUERS NEEDED in Northern Colorado! The owner of Grant Family Farm in Wellington, CO KILLED TWELVE THOUSAND hens, turning them into compost, claiming he could not afford to feed them. There are 1,000 remaining hens requiring adoption this weekend.

The Hen Again adoption will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Grant Family Farm, 1020 West County Road 72, Wellington. To help or donate to the re-homing cause, contact Shonna Kempter or Redmond-Ott at [email protected].

In other news, my first chick has hatched, and it's black. Second chick is almost out, and it looks like it'll be black too.
