Cyndiloowho cute little chicks! I think it is so fun that your kids know who the Beverly Hillbillies are!! I grow up with that show.

Granny is the perfect name for a NN.

Ok here are the chickies. I'm sad to say the little one I was worried about died in my hands a couple of hours ago.

Sorry for the blurry pictures my camera broke so I took them from my phone.
Okay, so these polish babies are to die for! I have some incubating right now but the air cells are terrible. I so hope that some of them hatch. Gotta have polish chicks!

Cyndiloo--Last Year Cynthia12 hatched Naked neck Turkens and a few hatched that were fully feathered around the neck. So they were dubbed the Non NN or Un NN's :D

Michelle, what kind/color of Polish are you hatching? Are they LF or bantam? Fun!

I had some bad air sacs in my olive eggs. Plus, they had that watery stuff on the bottom, but two made it to lock down that had the wet in the bottom,,and they hatched..Two, had real high air cells too. I got 5 babies. :)

Red, couldn't resist. I candled the light eggs again. I am so bad. Anyway, the two that are more green are veining up nicely, and also one of the green ones I can actually see veining. I need to wait until day 7 now.

I'm thinking another one of the other green ones is good for sure.

Welcome Bree! I live in Clinton. I was at Peterson Feed in Clearfield a few days ago, and they had 2 week old pullets in. GLW and Gold Comets, if memory serves.

Corvidae, for me, the feed store is a very dangerous place in the spring. Last spring I picked up three chicks. Of course, they're some of my favorites- I got my two polish and my speckled sussex on two separate occasions when I only went in to buy feed. Whoops. If I had a place to put it, I'd sooooooo buy a leopard gecko from you. I loved ours.

Sundance, sorry about the one chick. I'm glad you have 6 healthy ones. Very exciting! Any of them chocolate?

Lisa, I am going to ignore that you have wheaten ameraucanas. They are soooooo pretty. I'm sorry that your poor polish is being picked on. That's rough.

Welcome swiftra! I have to admit I don't buy mash. I do know Peterson in Clearfield/Layton does offer some stuff by the pound. It wouldn't hurt to call and ask them.

Mimichicks, that is such a bummer. How far along are they?

Cynthia, it's absolutely crazy to me that you won't know the results of your MRI til April. I don't think I could stand not knowing. That NNN egg is so pretty.

Hattie, congrats on your 7 that survived. I'm sorry about the one you were worried about. I'm sorry you didn't get a better number. Cynthia's instructions are good. I love your dust bathing photo, and the photos of your babies. That blue is gorgeous.

Lilwanis, congrats on the probable new job for your dh! Change is hard, but it's often a wonderful growing experience.

My cow guy told me to feel free to take the alfalfa hay leftovers that were on the floor in the barn. I tossed some out for the chickens yesterday and they loved it. They liked eating it, and it was nice to get them out of the muck.

Cyndiloowho, cute babies. Aphrodite is very clever. I love it.

I *think* that my birds are finally starting to lay again. Here's what I got today.

Well, we went to IFA today. <sigh> 2 Easter Eggers and 2 Andalusians later, we finally got home and set up a second brooder. I really have to start showing some self-control before all these critters eat me out of the house! Of course, we HAD to get the Easter Eggers, since Asher's was stolen from the land, and we couldn't just get ONE, since it would be lonely. And we HAD to get the Andalusians, since we only have one of those left and it's our only white egg layer, right? RIGHT?? ARGH! They really are very cute, though, and in the end I will have room for them, so I guess it's okay. Kind of.

Gosh, I sure can twist my brain into knots justifying this, can't I?

Happy note: one of Zach's leopard geckos laid an egg today. He was just about jumping out of his skin with excitement and it's in the incubator now. A few more months and I'll be overrun with leopard geckos along with the chickens. Oh, wait, I already am. Yeesh. At least I can't be called the Crazy Cat Lady, since I only have 5 of those. Joel keeps talking about breeding his fire bellied toads. I swear, I'll have frog legs for dinner if that starts happening.

Nice eggs! My green EE is molting and only lays around 2-3 eggs a week. Out of all the colors green is my favorite.I wish i had a few more hens that lay the green.

Quote: What do you feed the baby geckos? We had one that we rescued from a unfit home and she layed eggs all over the tank. To our surprise they hatched and we tryed everything to feed them but they all died. We felt so bad we rehomed the gecko and said never again. I ordered pin head crickets but by time they showed up it was to late. The baby's were so cute!

We feed them mealworms and Zach handfeeds the babies. He's got some trick to making them open their mouths. He keeps a mealworm farm (gack!) and they do pretty well with that. We tried the Dubia Roaches once--until the disgusting critters got loose in the garage. Three hours of tracking all the suckers down ended that little experiment. Fed them all to the chickens (who loved them, by the way!). During breeding season, we give the geckos rations of Superworms to fatten them up a little. The babies have to have calcium dusting on their food, or they will get some kind of bone degeneration and end up dying. Took Zach a little while to figure that out and he actually lost several because of it.

They are actually pretty easy to take care of--especially if you have a 13 year old who does all the care!
