Blu, that was a scare you got. What a naughty chicken!!!!
Awwww c'mon where is your sense of ADVENTURE??!! Lol

I read that hens CAN crow...this one did not do the three syllable crow, it was more like the last syllable... not er er Eerrrrrrrr, just Eerrrrrrrr! over and over. Really loud. Different than any hen I have ever seen or had....so I could put my head in the sand and say MAYBE it is still a girl......haha I keep thinking that in the back of my head. But I think in the real world, it has to be a boy. It was just so loud, and so weird.

Hey, if you like that, I have one cockerel and one hen out in Tooele with my BF. That's it. The other day, he sent me a picture of two eggs side by side. One brown. One green.

The EE hen lays brown. The cockerel is Ameraucana. Pointy feathers, crows, stands like a boy.

I suppose that if some hens can crow, maybe some roosters can lay eggs............Or I just got the freak

Hahaha my Icelandic boys are dopey like that. They freak out if someone opens the garage door or moves fast or is moving something large around. What's worse is that one of them will imagine that he saw something alarming, and then they feed off of each other and get louder. That's about the point where I grab them and cuddle them, heh

I moved all my young boys out to the coop....So far no crowing at all. The big boys make up for it though.

Well I have a few hens that make really weird noises....I will cross my fingers

Well I will try to remain sane while I wait to see what happens with this little "rooster". lol!

Red, a green egg from your boy? That is hysterical! I know I have had "tomboy" hens...that really look like boys going through adolescence...and then there are the drag queens, who like to fool me into thinking they are girls....Unfortunately I get way more of the latter. :bun

My silver laced wyandotte I thought for sure was a rooster. Made different noises and was very red from the beginning.......Then she laid an egg. Surprised the heck out of me.

Well if this one turns out to be a girl, I will be thoroughly astounded. I have a picture on my phone of him. Just need to get it downloaded via blue tooth.

You guys are cracking me up with your stories of crowing hens and roosters laying eggs, too funny!!!

Loved the pics of your girls a few pages back, Cynthia!! I had to skip to the end, I just have no leisure time anymore, sheesh!!

So, I had 11 chicks hatch!! 2 Black Marans, 1 OE, and the rest EE's, the EE's are interesting, 4 of them have chipmunk stripes, they hatched out of SBEL eggs, which surprised me, and the other 4 are all yellow, they hatched from the RSL eggs covered by the Amer roos... I think I'll try and save a girl from those, should be a good green egg layer =)

I've sold the Marans already, anyone want an EE chick?? They're really cute!!

My others go into lockdown next week, yay!!!

BLU! No hatching for me. OMG that would send me over the edge LOL And what if they are all roosters? Knowing my luck ....

I am not supposed to keep them in pairs, right? You are getting me in trouble!!!!! You live in Logan? That is way out for me. But not out of the way.

You ladies are so funny with your crowing hens and egg laying roosters. I can't wait to hear what they all turn out to be LOL

So the Mille Fleur and Swedish Flower hatched out, but it looks like a no-go for the little Welsummer. Poor Joel is very upset. We got nothing out of that whole batch of Welsummers, unfortunately. And he wanted then so badly, poor kid. Ah well, maybe the next set will produce a few. I had to help the little Swedish Flower out--she zipped almost all the way around, then got stuck. Hope she will be okay. She isn't quite up and walking yet.
