Utah!

Busy day for me. I moved the older chicks put of the brooder then into a coop inside Cluckingham palace. It has a heat lamp inside the house part of the little coop. I was going to put the month old chicks out in the brooder then decided to put them out there as well. Hopefullt it will be warm enough. I am going to go out later and check the temp to make sure the little cj=hicks are ok and warm enough. I went to Eagle mountain and bought some feed from Margaret. I stopped at the Riverton IFA and bought some corn to mix with it to up the protien a bit and I was so pround of me. Didn't buy any chicks. The chicks they had were just plain old kinds of chicks. I am vowing to stay out of the IFA on 2100 S as they have a huge selection. I am weak that way. Put my chicks and the Serama pair on KSL today will be interesting to see if they go. Hope so I am getting pretty attached.

Oh goodness, so cute!

I've been a stranger, trying to get back in the swing of checking in here. Our girls are all spoiled rotten than they were a few months back - they're bonkers over pasta. Nothing else comes close in the treat scale of happiness for them.

We had a close call with Pepper just after the holidays. My brother went out at twilight to put them in, and Pepper had somehow gotten over the top of the fence, and a small Pekingese type dog had attacked her. We think the dog scared her, she jumped the fence straight into danger. Glenn thought she was dead, feathers everywhere, and she was just laying there. Thankfully, she was just catatonic, and not hurt. He held her in his arms for a good hour till she started clucking and moving around. Whew!

We want a few more chicks! Definitely going to expand the coop. No particular breeds in mind, just something different than what you get at the CAL Ranch Chick Days

I warned him that I've learned here that collecting chickens is an addiction.

does anyone know were to get Corturnix Quail chicks locally? i know there was a breeder in Sandy and one in West Valley that sold them straight run for 1.50 a chick. I have lost the numbers. I think they actually gave you a break if you bought 30+. I know you can buy them at feed stores for 3 to 4 dollars, but i don't want them for pets.

. I would be interested in a couple button quail for pets if anyone knows were to get a pure white breeding pair.

Hmmmmm..... that is an idea. But how do I get DH to expand the coop? Lol
Tell him its an investment! If you have enough production hens that produce eggs to sale, they will pay for the food. And you can have all the really cool rare breeds you want and he will think that everyone is laying eggs and being self sufficient.....i think this will work....or is this my chicken math at work.....hmmmmmmm.....

So the Mille Fleur and Swedish Flower hatched out, but it looks like a no-go for the little Welsummer. Poor Joel is very upset. We got nothing out of that whole batch of Welsummers, unfortunately. And he wanted then so badly, poor kid. Ah well, maybe the next set will produce a few. I had to help the little Swedish Flower out--she zipped almost all the way around, then got stuck. Hope she will be okay. She isn't quite up and walking yet.
Good Luck with the little one, Donna! I am sorry to hear about the Welsummer

We will make the run more winter fit this summer so the ladies have more room to roam around. But yes, one more little one would be nice.

I wish my thermometer-hygrometer was here. I really, really need to set these eggs, but I don't want to mess them up because I can't correctly read the temps in my incubator. And it doesn't help that I have no idea what I'm doing. Aww man, I don't know what to do. And I don't feel good again, sorry to whine but I'm tired of feeling sick. Got an appointment with the eye doctor tuesday, so I hope I can get at least one problem solved.

This was exactly the self-argument I made when talking to my boss this afternoon. More chickens means selling eggs, means, self-sufficient, means let's do it! Chicken logic. I like.
