Utah!

Lol, I love this....we are two in the same...I keep track of each of my girls #'s (I am a banker so I am all about the numbers too) then on top of that I even take pictures of each of my hens and catalog it with the egg they are laying for me. My husband thinks I am a nut job I swear-but he loves me anyways

. Yesterday I spent four hours taking pictures of my 24 new chicks at every angle and each of their wing spans...so I can see if the whole wing sexing holds any credibility...hahahaha the fun of chickens. Here I have 24 chicks already, and I have been crusin the web all day looking for some blue and splash jersey giants...then of course I find four other breeds/color variations I can't live without . Good thing I have a husband who is handy...he's already building me another coop as we speak...it's my third

...honestly I feel like I may require a chicken intervention soon! Hahaha

BUT WOW 113 EGGS! You go girl!

I hope uour still coming on Thursday. That Arucana rooster is crowing away. Calling you

Lisa, I love your chart. It IS interesting to see how much each breed is laying for you. I am hoping for girls for you

thanks for posting pictures of them, my kiddos really wanted to see them, it was nice to get to show them your little fluffy cuties!

Welcome to the newcomers..that may not be as new as I thought! I just may not have seen you yet...and yaaay, we have another Lisa egg counter/picture taker..I thought I had everyone beat on pictures though. I have to say, I haven't taken too many pictures of my hens and their own eggs laid. I have taken a sequence of pictures of a hen laying...Lisa..? Lluv...? See if you have any like this and share..I thought it would be cool to have.

All nestled in ~

Just waiting ~ and pushing

Ha! I bet you thought that was going to be a blue egg! Wait, that isn't hers..lol..she's
pushing!

It's not blue, but it's a mint green. Just plopped ~

She had to move it over by the other egg..you can see the color is lighter as it dried.
I wonder if she is comparing size?

I use these pictures every now and again when folks are building their first coop, and
wonder how big the nest boxes should be. I show them how the chicken prefers to stand
up as she is close. Lisa, that wheaten A. is up for quite a while during her last part of
laying. She makes little squeaky noises too..cute.

Well, I am not surprised, that I have a pip this morning even though they aren't due to hatch
until tomorrow, but what surprises me is that it's one of the large eggs. I mean large. I have
a few silkie eggs in there, and when I heard chirping last night, I just figured it was one of
those. Maybe, but the one pipped is...a NN dad, and a RIR. Hmm, wonder what it will be.
And, get this. These eggs are for a friend, btw..but she says she saw that NN get hold of
her Silkies! I think it would be fun to have a bantam NN. Maybe those wouldn't go
broody so much! ? Would be cute, especially if it's a white one. She also has one
of my white showgirls..that is a girl. She isn't sure which egg is which! She has blue splash
silkies too. This should be fun to see if they all hatch. She does have a buff silkie roo, but she
says she didn't think that he had "it" down yet. We'll see. He was trying. These babies are
going back to her..unless I see one that I just have to have. :D

Cynthia, if that NN mated the silkie, she would have a first generation showgirl! That is what I have been looking for like crazy. Allof them are diluted down to the little things we see on here...but the first generation showgirls are supposed to be great layers, go broody seldom, etc. althought the feathering may not be perfect...still very cool. If you could get your hands on those fertile eggs, I would do it! Love the egg laying pics, I will see if I can find some :) So cute, that girl is pretty too!

So cute, that girl is pretty too!

So what would be best for the monster? Should we just get her a couple NN to breed with the silky Roo, or hold out for a showgirl?

The only pics I have of layiing are from the webcam...you might remember this...

Squatting

Puffed up!

There is the egg!

And....ahhhh, what a relief it is!

I thought maybe that is how it worked for the showgirls. Will have to see if she has seen that boy get the silkies more now. I know she has some pretty silkies and a nice NN. They all came from me. I've seen them, beautiful! Can't wait now. I hope there is a showgirl in there.
And, that blue girl in the nest box, is the first generation of the 5th generation girl I have now. But, this blue that I have now, her mom was mated with a Marans. I may have an OE out there ready to lay within a month.

Blujems, it just depends on what she is wanting...the 1st generations are quite imperfect, the silkied feathers can be mingled with regular ones, bowties/beards are usually not quite right. That is where the breeders start, then go from there. I am attracted to those because I am all about the eggs, and the egg laying gets smaller/less frequent as the silkies are bred back to the 1st generation and future generations...they become more silkie like and less turken like in their egg laying. But then they get prettier and fluffier and all that. It would be a fun project for sure. Still waiting on showgirl eggs. If they do not come soon, I am going to go ahead and order elsewhere, I am hoping the original ones I have already paid for come soon, they were a lot less expensive :)

Cynthia, you know anyone with showgirl eggs locally? I am going to be in SLC in two weeks. I have found a few breeders to get shipped eggs from finally, but WOW they are getting expensive with the demand. I sure hope that girl lays you a monster dark olive egg. I might need to be there to see the look on your cute little face :)

Madchicken, your daughter is so beautiful. I hope she had a wonderful time at prom.

Blujems, congrats on the baby goats!

Red, sorry about finding the two missing chickens. I definitely would defend my property if it came down to that. That is so scary that you fainted like that. Sounds like you definitely have something.

Lisa, I am confused- you ordered 5 NN, but only got 3? I am jealous that you are getting so many eggs. I love your fantasy chicken league. Hilarious!

If I'm lucky, I get 4 a day. I have 12 hens who SHOULD be laying, and I've only gotten 35 this entire month. I need them to get with the program because we're not even getting enough to eat, let alone set for the school hatches. I'm supposed to set 7 on Wednesday, and I have NOTHING. I had to wait for my chickens to lay to bake a cake yesterday. I am a chicken math geek too. I've started using a spreadsheet to keep track. Only problem is, I have a tough time telling the difference between my light brown egg layers' eggs.

Slvrphoenix, I don't have a silkie, but my friend does, and it went up the ramp just fine.

Doughie, that hen house looks good. Will it be enclosed in a run, or just wander around the yard? Do you have anything that digs? That'd be my only concern with that design.

Sundance, congrats on the Serama baby. Hoping that by the time I catch up, there will be more.

Corvidae, I would love one of your legbar roosters. I am busy in the afternoon from about 3:30 until 8pm Tuesday, so if you are going to be back earlier in the day, I can pick him up then, or maybe the later trip would work. What time are you anticipating getting home?

Gary, good luck with the pips.

Hens for sale if anyone is looking...
Cuckoo marans $7 1 yr old was laying nice big eggs, but is finishing a molt currently. She will be a great layer after she starts up again. Mellow personality.

GL Polish 1 yr old, (Elvis!) not layiing yet $Free to a BYC'er She would probably be awesome in another flock, I have two girls that abuse her daily and she will be happier elsewhere....she is hatchery quality, has some white feathers on her crest. She is the bottom of the pecking order and hides alot from the other hens, so she will need TLC when introducing to new birds. I think that is why she has not started laying yet, she is stressed out.

Marans mix 9-10 months old--She is really pretty, looks like alot like a black sex link, with a little more gold, big dark eyes, lays a nice reddish brown egg with speckles, and has a super sweet and curious personality $10. She just started laying again after mini-molting also.

If anyone is interested let me know and I can get pics. I will be in SLC on March 30th if they need a ride.
