Now to go research Icelandic words to find a suitable name! Right after I rest for a bit........
Red your new little one is so adorable!!! Congrats and good luck with the name today :D

Corvidae, this morning I had the chance to see one of the chickens that I hatched last year from your BLRW stock.  The one I kept for me died (I was worried about it's health, so I hung onto it), and sold 5, giving the last one to my SIL. I was at her house this morning, and went over to peek at her birds. OMG it is seriously one of the most beautiful chickens I have ever seen. Absolutely gorgeous. I'll have to take a picture for you.  She is sooooooo much prettier than the splash BLRW I hatched from Rebecca in Utah county last year.

Glad to hear it, and I'd love to see a picture of of her! Rebecca's are actually from hatchery stock and she's done a nice job of culling and refining, but it will be years before they are really close to the breeder quality type stock, unfortunately. I lucked out in getting really nice birds to work with right off the bat.

I have to admit when I saw her, I was just a teensy bit tempted to steal her.

probably would've been caught the next time they came over though; her girls visit my chickens a lot, and have named 3/4 of them. Doesn't matter if I had a name for them. I may just have to keep one or two of the BLRW that I'm incubating from you though.

I had a nice surprise today. I heard some cheeping in the incubator. I looked and to my surprise One of the button quail had hatched. It was 2 days early. I was going to put the eggs in the hatcher today anyway. I did and 2 hours later another one had hatched. They are so cute. about the size of a honey bee. Anyone want some button babies

Oh they sound so cute! I love them :) I don't dare try anymore though until I have more brooder space. I have a dang lot of chicks around this place!

I talked to the guy I had paid for SG eggs, the birds went broody a few weeks ago....now they are molting. My luck sheesh. He is sending me frizzle NH eggs instead, for now, then SG eggs eventually. Silkie_Sue said she will Have some for me in the next week or two, they have a blizzard coming in and waiting until after that to collect and ship. Ya hear that Blu? Tell Jess not much longer. If that silkie girl of yours ever starts laying again we could hook her up with my little rooster, he should be ready to go in a month...that would give us half silkies half SG babies...that could be our Plan B :)

Did the second chick hatch yet Red?

Ugh, yes it did, but I am so sick with worry right now. I left home for several hours this afternoon, and when I came back, I found that someone had been in the garage while I was gone. My broody was upset, her second baby was lying next to her and cheeping like crazy, and there was a broken egg on the floor of the cage. The baby was cold and its eyes were shut. I stuck it back under the mom, but I am very worried that this little one may not make it. I know who it was that was in there, and I have asked him not to bother the broody if I'm not there, but I guess he got too excited (he's just a kid) I don't want to do this, but I have to lock the garage now whenever I'm not here. I had a feeling I should have locked it before I left

Here is the little one. Hope she pulls through okay.

Oh dear I sure hope it is ok! At least it was cheeping, that is a good sign, remember those button quail I had, they looked completely dead, and I warmed them under a bulb then they ran around like crazy. Crossing fingers your little mama warms that baby up and all is well. Any more eggs under her to hatch or is she done?

So I have a question for all you pro hatchers. I am doing my first hatch ever for the Easter hatch along in a brand new Brinsea Octo Advanced EX and my egg weights are driving me crazy. I candled and weighed for the second time since the start and a couple are loosing too much weight. For the first week I ran 40% RH then bumped it to 55% RH for the second week. Do I take it higher for these last few days before lockdown or leave it and bump it at lockdown? Here is a screenshot of my spreadsheet showing the % weight loss for each egg.
