Utah!

Dang IFA employees--I was standing around the chickies today, trying to convince myself I had more than my share already...the IFA guy tells some people looking at chicks that Ameraucanas lay 3/week, and GSL's lay 4/week. The people ask if that is the most you can get per week and he says ya, 4/week is the max. Of course, I cannot stop myself from saying it...."you can ACTUALLY get 7/week from the GSL's." ..the IFA guy argues with me. " No ya can't. No chicken can lay that many eggs". I ask if he has ever had chickens.....nope. Doofus. The people probably think I am crazy. Just wait til those 4 GSL's they bought lay 28 eggs in one week....he he.

Speaking of doofus IFA employees, there is a gal out at our North store that we tease is the chicken nazi. She won't let you touch them. She won't let you buy only one at a time. She swears they are purebred Ameraucanas. She stands between you and the chicks like she is their Mother Hen and she is an offensive lineman protecting the QB. I hate buying chicks when she is in there, because I can't get a look at their feathers, wings, tails, legs ,nothing, she just grabs one and shoves it in the box and closes it and hands it to you. I was totally poised to get myself a Delaware Chickie, then she walked in to start her shift. She gave me the stink eye. "not you again"...that is what she was thinking....I owe it to her that i was able to come home Chick-less today. 300 pounds of feed, no chicks. I am set for a month at least. Thank you Chicken Nazi woman. Whoever you are. I don't like you much but you did me a favor

I know what you mean about those employes, but there are those ones out there that gladly excepts help. I stopped at Cal Ranch on 7800 s and 2700 w just after they got their chicks. They had the the barred rocks and the blacks sex links in the wrong pens, they had them switched. I told an employ and he asked if i was sure they were wrong and i said yes they are. He walked away and came back with two big boxes and switched the chicks. I would have not said anything but this happened to me when i was looking for red sex links and ended up with BO. I wonder if your Nazi is the same one that worked at IFA in American Fork. She dosent work there any more but she is the reason i had so many Bantams. She told me i had to buy twice as many as i wanted because they were very frail and only half would make it. Well geuss what SHES WAS A BIG FAT LIAR.

Congrats on your hatch, Red! I hope the 2nd baby makes it.
Lisa, I know EXACTLY who you are talking about! She really is the chicken Nazi!
I think I will go to Cal Ranch on Monday and throw in my $.02 worth! What did that make employee look like? I'd like to give him a hard time.
My smooth red bantam Cochin, Liz, has been trying to go broody the last few days. Today she was laying in the nest box...on nothing. For hours. I brought out a couple eggs for her to sit on. Might as well let her, I guess!
I set 15 Mille fleur, blue Mille fleur and mottled bantam cochins today, along with 30 Crele and barred bantam Wyandottes. Remember how crazy some of those air cells were in Clay's batch of eggs, Lisa? Well over half of them are that crazy again, and they'll travel down one side of the egg and up the other. :-/ I set them all anyway. The D'uccles I just hatched started off with NO air cells whatsoever, and I had 5 of 7 shipped eggs hatch. They were from Indiana. I'm very pleased with that outcome!

Haha! Funny stuff!

Oh my word, you guys and your feed store narratives are really giving me a giggle. Not the dead chick part, but the employees part. I've been into a couple of different stores where they had bins of chicks very obviously mislabeled (the prime example being my "Welsummer" *cough*RIR*cough*) I have pointed it out to employees before, but I guess I'm too polite about it and don't look knowledgeable, because they just give me the bland smile and the "Oh you think you're pretty smart, don't you" look. Makes me want to rip the signs off of the bins and put them on the correct ones.

I was in Cal Ranch last year looking at the chicks/poults they had. I asked one of the gentlemen working there if the poults were BBW's. He says no, he doesn't think they are. I said I was pretty sure they were (I had just wanted to double check) He says no no, he's not sure what they are. Hmmm, yes, Mr. Employee. I clearly have no idea what a BBW looks like, do I?

Feed store fail.

Oh, before my computer dies - my second chick made it through the night! Man, she's loud. I think her mother was Psycho Summer. She's quite feisty already, and she hasn't even gotten to her feet!

Sasha--the male employee had a baseball hat on, round face, young guy. good luck on your next hatch, were the crele wyandottes from the same breeder?
Hope you get lots more to hatch this time!

Phoenix, Then it is settled. You go shopping with me next time I buy chicks in there. That gal scares me lol

She is a little scary. But After a couple of years of as the boss would call it"flirting" with her. She came around. Plus it helps she know we know her boss.
