Utah!

Wow thanks everybody for the help and advice on garlic planting. I used a ton last year with canning salsa & spaghetti sauce from harvesting the garden. It is nice to know I can throw some in now and still get some. Can't wait for my boys to start teasing me about growing and storing garlic.....vampires and all that

Thank you La Casa de Pollo!!!  I started with just wanting chickens for eggs, but then got intrigued with the different breeds..lol.  Now have tons of eggs but love the flock!!!   Converting an old shed to a 'chicken care facility' for incubators and brooders.  Already have the brooders and incubator but now waiting for the finished space.  LOL... then I'll end up with even more.  Presently building separate runs to keep my breeds apart, so that I can keep my chicks and eggs pure.  So excited to get started with the new chicks!!!

My husband thinks I'm nuts... not like I don't have anything else to do...lol.  Have Cashmere goats which are multiplying quickly, an apiary and working to get a performance horse facility on our 12 acres.  Busy, busy, busy!!

now that sounds like so much fun! i am jealous for sure :D

talk about jealous. that is awesome though, and here i am wishing i could have a roo.

if i planted garlic now would it harm it when i plant tomatoes latter? (i plant in garden boxes to help keep the dogs out)

That would work fine. I would plant the garlic on the south side of the tomatoes and a good 2 plus feet out, tomatoes get big enough that otherwise the garlic would get covered with the tomato plant and not get enough light to keep thriving by late summer :)

I spent three days in Boise this past weekend on a soccer "vacation" and came back to three chicks ready to jump from their brooder! I quickly moved the injured adult to an outdoor pen and moved the Houdan and two Wheaten Americaunas to a bigger area in the garage. Amazing how fast they grow. Fingers crossed but I think I chose right with Blugems Wheatens...both look very girl like at 4 weeks.

so where are you located? I must have missed that part. Welcome

DesertSprings, I can't decide if I'm more jealous of your peafowl or your bees. I want both, but just can't right now. It sounds like you have an amazing setup.

Red, ewwwwww on the lice. I'm all itchy just reading about it. so gross!

Lilwanis, I've never vaccinated my own chicks. It's so spendy for tiny batches.

Doughie, I hope your chicks keep looking like girls. Congrats if you did manage to choose perfectly!
