Utah!

Btw, my browser isn't working so this might be a wall of text, sorry.

I'm jealous of you all. You all have such awesome chickens, mine are all pretty normal. xD Although, I still love my Brahmas to death <3

Maybe, would someone be willing to give me breeding advice? This may be the only year I'm able to breed them. I'd also like to find interested people though. Though Granite Mountain members might be interested~

Been working with my chickens. Four of the six have finally started to come around. I've stopped trying with my Leghorn though, and my Delaware already likes me for whatever reason... lol

Finally got the chance to upload some videos. There's two I'm not linking because the quality is bad.

My baby chicks, outside time. There was a lot of cuter moments after I turned off the camera. Mimzy kept coming on my lap to cuddle. ^.^ And Julia is obsessed with me for some reason. XD

Lilifey showing a desire for a nest box. ^.^ She's such a sweetheart. I show my other chickens too. I need to catch Zaphod when he's being friendly, never met a nicer roo. <3 The meanest he's ever been is just slowly avoiding me.

The following two are older.

This is my Brahmas dustbathing. They are not dead. xD People kept asking what they were doing and saying that they were laying eggs. I had trouble explaining to them that they are in fact dustbathing.

This is my timid hen, Mozart. She likes to hide in my coat. <3

Are eggs really that difficult to hatch that you might only have a 10% success rate? I imagine it depends on breed?

Doesn't depend on breed. It depends if they were shipped or not. Shipping is so hard on the eggs. But of course, there's the, they need to be fertile in the first place. When you buy eggs, you have to trust the folks saying that they are having these great hatch rates at home, meaning the eggs are fertile.

Cute videos! Oh my goodness, where do you live? We had a neighbor right next door that had a dog bark like that, and non stop. It sounds just like her! I wonder if you have new neighbors? lol...we were kind of glad they moved with their doggy. I mean that dog, could bark for hrs on end. When we went out, we had to listen to it. It would stand up at the corner of the fence and poke it's head up and bark at us. Beautiful German Shepard though.
Love, love, your rooster!
Just looked at the Mozart one, she is adorable. :))

So Pan, you are having problems with your leghorn being friendly? :( All of my leghorns but one in the past have been very friendly! Here is a picture of my latest Miss Piggy. sundance gave her to me. I love her. She reminds me of my last girl. She was very very friendly too.

She just hops right up when ever I lean down. When I walk out the back door, and stand
on the porch, she jumps and flys right up the fence, wanting me to come over!

I live in unincorporated Salt Lake County, in the Murray/Holladay area. Nice thought, but this neighbor was here when we moved in here lol. It's a rather annoying dog, it scares my babies. This dog looks like a border collie mix.

I love Zaphod <3

Glad you seem to like them as much as I do. XP

Mine I named Sunny. I might have just got a difficult chick. She really just runs from my hand. She'll eat out of it and jump on my lap, but is scared to death of being caught. Once I have her though she's pretty mellow. I love her but, you know, just having a little trouble. Might she get better as she gets older? Honestly I'm new at raising chicks as far as different breeds go, my chicks last year were Brahmas and a bunch of filler Production Red males. Those were my first chickens in five years. I'll try more with her, just having a wee bit of difficulty.

Does anyone have any hatching eggs they could give me. I have a teacher coming from Rock Springs tomorrow and I don't have enough eggs for her classroom hatch, I;ll be in orem this afternoon but call me at 801 597 7854 and I will make arrangements to pick them up

Sundance, those sizzle roosters are gorgeous! I could give you whatever eggs I have right now, but since I set eggs at the school Wednesday and gave another dozen to another teacher to set yesterday, I only have a couple. I'll be in SL tomorrow if you want to meet up.

Welcome Pancake! i have several that aren't laying yet. I chose my birds more for ornamental than egg purposes, but I wish they'd get with the program.

Desert, what a nightmare with your babies!! I'm glad you got them back, though sorry you lost one. Honestly, I think you and your husband need counseling if you are to have any chance at a successful marriage. What a toxic environment.

Sundance, I just love that ee/leghorn cross of yours. She's so pretty.

Cyndiloohoo, that new calf is just adorable!

Bird-man, cute doe!

Lisa, I'm so sorry about all the dud eggs. How sad. That houdan is very cute. What an awkward moment with your friend and her views on roosters.

Corvidae, I am so sorry for the loss of your uncle. It has got to be hard on your poor mom to deal with that loss, and then having all of her issues on top of it. Sorry you can't be closer. Good luck with your hatch. I am DYING to get a BLUE blrw from your stock, but I just can't raise any tiny chicks right now.

So my eggs all hatched early AGAIN! My two legbar eggs were fathered by the marans, and then I got one BLRW from Corvidae's eggs, and then a white egg. I was hoping it was from the polish, but it looks like it was the hamburg. She is such a beautiful little chick, and I'd bet money it's a pullet.

I had the most traumatizing experience yesterday. I went out to check on my chickens yesterday morning, and discovered my little bantam frizzle wandering around the yard outside the coop, happy as a clam. I got closer, and she's managing to go under the fence. We have a terrible rat infestation, and they've dug a tunnel, and she discovered it. Awesome. So I grabbed a 2x4 to stick where the gap was. It was quite big, so I was kind of dragging it. Alice, my favorite chick from my january hatch, is always underfoot and she caused me to stumble, which made me drop the board right on her. I got it off, and she went running off, and hid out under the chicken coop where I couldn't get to her. She eventually got back into her favorite corner of the henhouse and stayed there all day and all night. This morning, she was out walking around, though a bit slow, and looks like she's hurting a bit. She definitely remembers and hates my guts right now, which makes me really sad. She was definitely the friendliest of all of my chickens. I swear her sisters are all giving me the stinkeye too, banding around her.

So, the rats. They're terrible. If I'm outside in the evening, I'll see 4-5. Which is very bad, because how many are NOT out in the open? I think they're burrowing underneath our shed, which is in between both chicken coops. We've been trying to shoot every one we see, but that won't fix a major problem. I hate using poison, but I just don't know what our other option is at this point.

Looks like my plans to take my son and his buddies to Hogle Zoo tomorrow might be foiled, looks like rain. I had a giant rooster drop lined up for a guy to take 12 baby boys. Dang! I guess they will stay my little buddies a bit longer :p
