Utah!

have you thought about useing rodent smoke bombs? they pump the tunnels with poison gas and makes it so you do not have to deal with bodies. the ones in the store may be labeled for gophers but they will work for any rodent

i am a big fan of rodent smoke bombs

I love the idea. However, at least 3-4 entrances to the tunnels are within my chicken pens, and I'm scared of my birds being harmed.

Good Heavens....Ya'll have been busy.

I found one of my EE pullets yesterday in the pvc feeders. It ran out of food so she climbed in there to eat what was left and went in to far she got stuck. I didn't look in there yesterday morning and when I fed last night she was there, so I don't know how long she was in there. She was shivering and in shock, so she spent the night in the house to warm up and get some food and electolytes in her.
She was good this morning and went back outside. But I gotta remember to keep it full of food until they are bigger.

blu, glad she is ok..poor thing.

Brad, we used some of those rodent bombs for gopher in Mapleton. They work pretty good.

red needs to come on and say hi now.

I have two NN babies that are up and crawling. One is still absorbing, so if it makes it, I will have three NN's out of 6 that went into lock down. I really don't think I would have gotten any if I hadn't helped. They are white, with black, one is almost pure white. :D

Lisa, Look what I found on another site I go to. I think this looks like it could be a silkie EE mix. Pretty cute. Mine will have some brown, or be brown if the silkie comes out. Looks like this little one has 5 toes, but not the dark skin, or the silkie beak. Well, partly.

No way, look what I just found! If my babies look like this, because sundance does have that pretty splash, and if it bred to that silkie, oh wow..how fun. I could have a soft big bird. lol.. bet they go broody. Oh well. They lay nice big eggs. So pretty. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/767602/bin-silkied-ameraucana-project-eggs

SUNDANCE, check out what you could be charging for your eggs!

I can't charge that much because my rooster that died was the sizzle americana boy, He looked very much like a large zizzle, He had 5 toes black skin but hatched out of a blue egg. Hopefully one of his babies will frizzle and be a rooster so I can keep him In the meantime I have that pretty partridge sizzle roo in there with them. I have his brother and sister, The sister looks like a frizzle Americana with clean leggs, The brother looks like an Americana that is smooth feathered and clean legged, Best thing is he does not crow. He is breeding the hens but not a crow anywhere. I made the big mistake of going to IFA today. Ed wanted some quail. Sooooo guess what I brought.

Oh, I KNOW I KNOW!!!! I won't say though because I have inside knowledge!

Blu, that poor chicken. Glad you found her in time.

does anyone want a cute little rooster. Bantam RIR/SILKIE. His color is coming in really nice. He will stay small. I have the two roosters i want so he is up for grabs. i know someone wants a cute little pet rooster. Not much for breeding but great for keeping the girls in line and giving his life to a hungry hawk instead of one of your layers or breeders.

Hello all!!!

Just checking in to see what's going on in the chicken world...lol.

Hello to all the New Eggs!!! YAY!!!!

So sorry to hear of the loss of loved ones. May your memories be happy and your hearts heal quickly!!

Red, wow, tough hatchings, and poor babies... and poor you!!! Hang in there!!! Once you figure out what's wrong things will be better.

Can't remember now who mentioned marriage counseling....yes, I agree and have been slowly working on that idea. Been working on bringing that idea into fruition for quite some time. There's always hope.

A real shocker!! Today I picked up my 5 new Delaware and 2 Welsummers pullets from a good friend in the SL valley. When hubby and I arrived home we found that a breaker had blown in my newly set up shed, which the big brooders were getting moved into tonight. Uncomfortable with just resetting the breaker and putting the brooders and my new babies in for the night, I expressed my concern. He mentioned that they should just spend the night in the house bathroom until we figure out the problem. WHAT? Okay, so one of us is on drugs...lol... and I'm only on antibiotics for a cold.

He must be trying to make up for the chicken drama that occurred prior.... hope he stays in that frame of mind.

My new Delawares are awesome.... I absolutely love them. They are so outgoing...lol. The Welsummers, on the other hand, need some TLC. They always have me stressing cause one minute they look great and the next, they decide to die. However I keep trying with them!!! For grown Welsummers, I have 1 roo and 4 hens and will start collecting eggs again in less than a week. I already have two young Delaware hens so these 5 pullets will add to my flock.... still looking for a Delaware roo!!!

My neighbor has my incubator and has been putting eggs in left and right from the Speckled Sussex I gave her last year and the Purebred Americaunas that were moved to her house during the chicken drama. She's gone a little crazy, and has started ordering fertile eggs...lol... I've told her she needs to slow down but have to smile cause the rest of us are already there.

Here's my Welsummer roo (named Mister) with 3 of his wives inside his coop.

Here's Toby, my huge Black Australorp. Notice the watering trough and how big he is next to it. He's a real sweetheart!!!

Here's 3 of Toby's 12 wives (plus a young Hybrid Americauna that jumped in for a photo op).

This is Jack Frost, my young purebred Blue Splash Americauna that is living with his 4 wives (3 blue, 1 black) at the neighbors right now.

My Barred Holland roo Bart and 1 of his 5 wives. So sweet he likes to be held and pet!!!

Should have pics of my Buff Orpingtons, Legbar, Delawares, Golden Laced Wyandottes, guineas, peafowl, etc soon to post.

Stay happy ......

Desert, you have some very gorgeous stock! Did you enter any of your roos into the SL county fair last year? Someone there had a huge BA roo. He was pretty and very mellow.

Sundance, I saw quail today at IFA. And ducks. And turkeys. And geese. All I got was one little chick to keep the BSL chick company, though. I tried to stick her under my broody last night, but my broody is a total dope and wouldn't take her, so the chick has been crying and crying in her brooder. She's much happier with a friend, now. I got a little Delaware. She is already so sweet, just like my Ellie was.

Corvidae, Bokbok sounds like a fun hen. Glad she's recovering alright.

I need to get my greenhouse set up. I'm stocked with herb seeds now. Just need the GH set up and some soil to put in the pots I got. And, my turkey hen is broody. She's not even sitting on anything! She's been camping in the nest mound for two days now, and if you get within five feet of her she puffs up and hisses, then tries to bite you. Betty, you have a very cruel sense of humor............

Uh oh.............I just realized that I forgot to get more feed today at IFA

We still have some, but I guess the chickens will be getting extra vegetable scraps and grazing time tomorrow.
