Lisa, are you selling the white EE? I would love to have that one. Why do you have to live so far away!

I just changed my order a little with McMurry. Keeping the amount of Houdans, but instead of all brown leghorns, I am getting three LF Cochins. Partridge, Buff, and Black. Two leghorns. I am thinking I want to keep a Partridge or Buff Cochin, will see.

I thought Magpies were Mexico's National bird, but looked it up..they aren't.  Not sure if they can be killed here or not.  ?  From what you all are saying, I'm glad I haven't had any around here!  I might see one once in a great while..knocking on wood.
yes it is fully legal to kill magpies in utah. they actually used to pay a bounty like they do with the coyotes now but they do not do that now as far as i know. so knock them dead :D i keep a pellet gun handy in case i ever need it ;)

"A person may kill Black-billed Magpies, Cowbirds, House Sparrows, European Starlings, or Domestic Pigeons (Rock Doves) by any means, excluding bait, explosives or poison, and only on or over the threatened area."

Well, according to the Utah Administrative Code effective April 1, 2013... everyone can use explosives to blow up those stinkin magpies!!!!

I was taking out the garbage at my daughters condo and a magpie flew over head with a baby duck cheeping in its mouth, I threw the bag at it and it dropped the baby, It hit the soft lawn. Wasn't hurt that I could tell, I picked it up started walking in the same direction it flew from as the condo had several ponds. A couple of ponds later I found moma. I set the baby on the edge of the bank. Momma came and collected it. Don't know if any of those 10 babies momma had survived but I did my part

I read up on the magpie thing once and found out that if they are troubling your livestock (chickens count as livestock) it is perfectly legal to kill them.

Well, I got a nice, stinging reminder today that when you're not communicating in person, the meaning of your words can be taken way differently than you meant them to. And, sometimes people just don't like a joke. Period. I guess I am so used to being laid back and silly with you guys here, I forget sometimes on other threads that those folks don't possess that same humor, at least not with me.

She's doing better. She tried to sneak out of the garage today and I had to tackle her, so I guess that's a good sign, yes?

I made a joke on one of the other threads I hang out on about crossing the purebred chicken in question with another breed, and I guess someone didn't think it was very funny, because they bit my head off. If you figure out who and where I'm referring to, please my good peeps, do not go and say anything to them about it. I just apologized and will leave it at that. Can't make everyone happy, I guess

What's upsetting, too, is that I was starting to think of them as a bit of a forum buddy, because they tend to be knowledgeable about keeping chickens and I have been able to chat with them and others on that thread for a little while.

Red, I had the same thing happen recently, really hurt my feelings. I was reprimanded rudely for something I meant to be a compliment but was taken very oddly- I like this thread so much. So so so much! Big hug to you from me!

Lisa, my garlic have popped right up!!! Thanks to all for the advice. I still have extra of the Spanish one that you suggested if you need some I will send it your way. I think I will wait and try again next year for the SBELs. My kiddos really had their hearts set on those ones and I am kinds getting used to having no more babies. Besides with my track record, I would choose all boys :) Thanks for keeping me in mind, you are so kind.

I have to say that this little duck has taken us all to a new level of crazy. We have been all crowded in the bathroom marveling and giggling at the adorable little thing paddling around in the water while the kiddos throw bread, peas, and greens.........into my bath tub!!!
So much fun though!!!
After reading I gave it niacin in the water and it does appear to be improving. Think I could tape the foot like a chick? Or should I leave it?

Oh, Almost forgot. A few of my pullets have what I could only describe as swollen cheeks??? Eating fine & all that but skin looks swollen????

Cyndiloo, I'm so sorry. Some people can be downright baffling, can't they? Hugs back at ya

Your duck story has me giggling. I want a duckie!!! Aww, phoo. Maybe someday, over the rainbow.............And you're making me excited about gardening! I totally forgot that I got some onion starts today after work. Red onions

I've already got Walla Walla's that are two years old. Heeee!

Are you sure their cheeks are swollen? Can you get a picture?
