Utah!

thanks cynthia and lisa. not sure the exact measurements on the run but i have it planned out in my head. it is going to be on the side and front of my coop, kinda in a backwards l. it will be twice the size of my old one. and much stronger as i am doing cattle panels lined with chicken wire. and i will have lilac bushes, maybe even some bamboo around it and grapes and maybe kiwi growing on it. and my rabbits will share it. and then with the rabbits being in it the chickens will help with the rabbit droppings

Gary! Cotton baby..I want to see one of her very own babies. Will be watching for pictures.

I am supposed to get my Houdans tomorrow. They better not get stuck at that darn Provo Office! If they aren't at our office, I am calling over there, and hopefully, if they are there, they will let me go get them. I got a call from the hatchery this morning saying they were on their way, and to call the post office. Oh, I will, if they don't call me. I'm excited to see these cuties after seeing Lisa's. I hope they are alright.

The ones Sundance hatched for me are Cottons baby's. She was sitting on eggs all ready when they hatched so i put them in the brooder. They are really cute now. Broke down and gave them a meal worm today. They had fun trying to find it in the wood shavings. I ended up helping them.

Finally had time today to spray all the runs down with oxine. Still waiting on a fogger to fog all the girls with, but that should be here later this week. The big girls were way curious about the sprayer. You'd have thought they were kids in summer running through a sprinkler. Zach trying to shoo them out of the run and they kept running back in and jumping through the spray while I stamped by for at them in irritation. Two of the Ameraucanas kept trying to perch on the spayer at my feet. Idgits.

Don't know how effective the oxine is in the runs, but I figure it can't hurt. I also sprayed down all the wood on all the coops. Makes me feel better to do it, anyway. Like I'm somehow making it magically more clean. I enjoy my delusions. I spayed down the chicken carriers as well. Almost spayed down the cats, but that seemed a little OCD. Plus, the cats move really fast. Especially when Piffle the Giant Buff Cochin starts eyeing them.

You know, I really hate the autocorrect on my iPad-- it always makes me look like I haven't got a decent grasp on basic English...

What is Oxine? And what are you spraying for.

Corvidae,

Is that Inactivated Oxine you're using?

Oxine, by all accounts, is an excellent disinfectant for chicken coops, waterers, and chicken respiratory and GI tracts. Basically, it kills the virus and bacteria that can make chickens sick without actually hurting the chickens (in its non-activated form, anyway). It also is reputed to reduce dust and smells from the chicken coop/run and reduce or eliminate fly populations. It is used as a spray to disinfect surfaces, in a fog to let the chickens breath it in and improve their respiratory status, and in water to keep waterers clean. They apparently like the taste of it because they tend to drink more water.

I've only just started using it--there are a few people on here who use it and have mentioned it. My chickens aren't actually sick, but it can be used prophylactically to kill any bacteria or virus susceptible to it (which appear to be most of them that can make chicken sick).
