Utah!

Houdan just wasn't going to make it.  She is gone now.  :(

As for my other chicks and chickens..good news.  They are doing great.  Not even one sign of sneezing, coughing, chest sounds.  I just don't know what was up with the Houdan.  Everyone has been getting yogurt to replace the good biotic in their bodies after having the Denagard.  They love that of course. Another nice thing about the Denagard.  You don't have a waiting period for eating eggs once given.

My mama hen is sooo cute.  I love her with the babies.  Such a good mama.  Fun to watch.  I just lean down there and watch her with them.  Especially if I have thrown some food in there for them.   She will peck it to pieces for them to eat.  Scrambled egg being a favorite of theirs.

Oh man that is too bad she died so fast! Ugh!
Your mama hen is adorable :)

I'm sorry you lost her! She was so cute. I'm just glad the rest of your flock seems to be doing good.

It's Sweet PDZ I went outside and looked. I got it from IFA when I went there looking for some DE, they said that I could use it in the shavings with the chicks to help with the odor. Its for stall use, but it does have use on the bag for dog runs, rabbits, birds and other small animals. So I hope its safe since I bought a 40 lb bag, and only use a very small amount with cleaning. They just said to sprinkle a small amount and mix it with the shavings.

I scrarnble eggs all the time for my chickens and babies. I have to, I have way too many eggs.

Correction on the time a hen and rooster can produce fertile eggs. From my most resent reading (a few moments ago), the sperm can live up to 10 days. To produce breed specific chicks a hen and rooster must stay together, away from other breeds for the same amount of time before eggs can be collected, to produce breed specific eggs (which is very bad news for me!! I had read previously on another site that the time frame was 7 days, so my Wels and BH eggs that I collected from day 8 could still be mixes). A week of potential WYD chicks UGH

If you end up with a mix, I have to see them.

I'm going to have to scramble up some eggs, do you add milk to them, and can I give them hard boiled? I have a few that are hard boiled now. Good to know since one of these days I well be getting eggs. How often do you give them eggs?

I rescued a baby magpie from the neighborhood kids just now. They were trying to rescue it. So far, they had given it a bath, tried to find worms for it, and brought it on a stick into my yard. I sent them back to the school parking lot, away from my birds. I called the local wildlife rehabilitation and was told that they go through a phase when they are learning to fly/ leaving the nest. Went back, educate well meaning, sweet kids, returned it to the ground by its tree, and shooed the kids away from the area. I kept thinking, "I've always wanted a pet magpie." I was strong and left it to its parents.

iPad shot of one of my houdan girls with the ameracauna boys. That is the bigger one, Casa. The little girl is laying next to me also :)

just checked my little broody bantam's eggs. 2 were bad. 4 are still good. 2 white Pheasants and 2 Lady Amherst. Only problem the person that wanted them just wanted them to train dogs. So i will be looking for new homes for them. If i cant find a home then i will see how long they stay in me yard. Maybe i will be a lucky one like Sundance and 1 or 2 will stick around...what is your chuckers name? Chucky?
