Brian thanks so much for the updated photos, she has gotten bigger. :D I still have 2 Buttercup Chicks if you think you might want one. They are about 6 week old now, and love being outside, they are really flighty though. They give me my run for my money trying to get them in the coop at night. If I catch one, and put her inside, the other one usually runs right in. I might have more, my neighbor has really changed her mind on keeping one. She wants her chickens to basically come in her cat door, lol She wants lap chickens, and these girls are so flighty. The others that are still at my house are really friendly, but I do play with my babies everyday. But these are so completely different. Sure are cute though. I can't wait till they all go over to her house through. I feel like I'm over run with chicks right now. They had a family ER in California, and I think they will be home around the 8th of this month. So hopefully they can get their coop finished and they all go home. LOL

Gary I'm so very sorry that you lost another Silkie. Makes me so very sad. Please let me know if you would like one of mine, since they are from your lines, I really want 2 for my house, and I'm afraid that the other 2 are Roo's, but the Blue Splash really might be a girl, they are still too young for the Silkie thread to say, but they are sure the blue partridge is a Roo, but who really knows, none have any wattles right now, and their combs are still dark black, and are very small. Mine are very happy and healthy. We have tons, and tons of shade at my house, and they are always hanging out under the pine tree in the mud. They really could use a bath, they are so dirty. Silly chicks. So hopefully they are staying out to the heat.

I think I've been lucky, I haven't had any signs of the heat here. My whole back run area is basically shaded 100% of the day. I have been soaking the grass and the dirt area every morning for about 20 minutes with the sprinklers before I let everyone out. And it stays damp looking all day long. So they all seem to be great all day long. I haven't noticed any panting or anything with any of them. They are going through about 5 gallons of water a day though, so at least I know they are all getting enough water.
 
Sara, you took the Delaware home, didn't you?

Doughie, yay for egg squats! They can do that a few weeks before they lay, though. I've had a couple of my girls do that.

I'm glad you got Reba. She sounds like a cool chicken, from what we're heard about her from Cynthia.

Hey Cynthia, I can't remember if you said or not, but did you end up rehoming that EE you kept from me? She was the bluish one with some Icelandic in her. I'd be curious to see what she looks like now.

How in the world do people get good hatch rates from shipped eggs?! I have a third mutt egg from my girls that's also developing nicely. I am going to be on pins and needles waiting for those Icelandic eggs to hatch! I need just one chick to survive, though more would be excellent. At this point, I think I may only get one. Day ten today.

Shipped eggs are making me crazy!!! Sometimes I think it's me or the inc. On one order of Ebay eggs, some were smashed. The yolk and albumin were on most of the existing eggs. The shipper told me to still incubate as they would hatch (yea, right!

). He agreed to reship if I would pay for shipping, which I did. The first set of 12 eggs hatched out only one. The reshipment consisted of only 6 eggs, not 12

. Of the 6 only 4 were fertile however this morning all 4 hatched!!!!

Of my BA eggs, almost 1/3 weren't viable. They were set to start hatching tomorrow however 6 have already pipped. Maybe this 2nd to last hatch will finally be a good one. The first was awesome... 100% hatch; the next two were fairly bad.... now this one.

Brian, love seeing your setup. That shady spot with the misters has got to be wonderful.

Desert, too funny that the little cockerel still comes running up to you. I hope he stays that sweet and friendly. I'm constantly chasing my chicks out of the feeders. Very annoying.

Both of those fatheaded Maren's are broody beyond belief! I used golf balls in my nests until they became broody so I removed them and put them in the rear storage on my coop. One of the marens flew up to the storage, knocked the golf balls down onto a feed bucket...and proceeded to sit on them.

Honestly I really think these must mature fast- My rooster was so red and apparent at 6 weeks of age, he has been mating the hens for about three weeks, Crowing full-on for quite a long time. Two of my girls look ready to lay soon as well :) They were received through the mail 3/1 so born 2-3 days prior. No eggs yet, but one has been sitting as if to lay very soon :) Will be fun to see what kind of layers they are.

Too funny about your stubborn broodies :)
