Utah!

Desert, kindly PM me the screen name of said individual, so that I may avoid any business with them in the future. That kind of behavior is ridiculous. So sorry you've had to deal with that. You need a vacation.

Cynthia, I think your SG's are cute! They look so funky

I had the most revolting thing happen today. I pulled a random bug test on the flock, and for the most part, everyone was doing great...............Then I found one of my pullets that had a very bad bug problem. I'll save you the details, but to be succinct, I dumped olive oil all over her and rubbed it in. She is a little grease ball now, but I suspect she's much more comfortable. She was acting a lot happier by the time I was done. Poor thing. And, I promptly took a shower and decontaminated myself afterward. Ugh! Encore in a couple of days, here, just to make sure that the problem is gone. I think it may be time to invest in some diatom. earth.

The individual has already responded in a PM, and actually slammed me for giving him a refund.  Guess some people you just can't please.  However since this is my business, I just wished everyone to know my stock was not ill.

Those that were brought back were kept far apart, placed right into the culling pen, away from any others.  Matter of fact, had to build that pen since I didn't have any to cull at that time; my extra roos weren't old enough to even be placed there.

I will drop this subject, as the facts have been stated and the outcome has been explained.  Furthermore, no names have been mentioned and I don't have the time to re-hash this out, since I'm working from sun up until almost midnight, daily.   Best I get back to work.

Sheesh--between this and the one earlier this year that sent a free roo and wanted it back when it turned out to be a girl ( her mistake judging the sex, that we pointed out to her we thought it was a girl) and then after waiting a couple weeks without saying anything, expected you to drive it hundreds of miles back to her to trade....I would be ticked too. That "free" roo cost you a ton in gas and headache... Isn't that the same lady that wanted me to to haul chickens to Idaho and then buy some there and bring them back for her too? Then said the chicken people on this side of the country were jerks after I helped her willingly and had thought she was so nice? **sigh** You really cannot expect some people to even say thank you I guess. Grrrr.
Oh well, don't let it get to you! I am dealing with a daycare family that got 2 free months daycare and is mad that I am putting my foot down about making a payment to their account, so they quit. (I could see it coming when they signed up, not a family I should have signed on with, but i was trying not to be judgmental and give them the benefit of the doubt! Sometimes it IS ok to trust your gut about people. ) Now I have lost nearly a thousand dollars of income, and have to go through legal hassle to try and get it, or just "be nice and let it go". Ugh, I do NOT want to be the bad guy, I hate that! Come to find out I am not the only preschool that this has happened to with this family. Wish I would have known :(
There, I ranted too!

Desert, hang in there. Lots of positive business will make up for the one that was ornery. I truly believe that people like that, that are sooo very hard to please, must have other stuff going on in their life that we don't know about...that if we knew we might understand better their behaviour. Maybe health issues, losing a loved one, or just taking things out on the wrong people....I try not to believe that people are just so downright mean. Try to take pity on them, be glad you are not living their situation, or being the dirty one, and rise above and move on. Really it is so hard, I know, but it helps me to look at it that way :) I always think "Wow I am so lucky to be happy me and not miserable you!" haha :D Don't let them get you down.

Remember, chicken nerds unite! :highfive: The people on here, are the best people I know!

RED--you are so lucky finding girls where there should be boys...would you pass a little of that luck my way?? Seems like all the chicks in my brooder are chest bumping again!

Speckledhills was saying on the Idaho thread that an option was Frontline flea and tick for dogs..that she put it on her chickens and they are bug free. Seriously contemplating, bathing and dipping 60 chickens is a crazy chore. A few drops on the chickens skin repelling and killing lice and mites for a month or more? Priceless. I found some generic for cheap on ebay. Someone posted that you can get the bigger packs for bigger dogs, it is just more in the tube but not more concentrated, so the price per ml is way cheaper, and does way more chickens. Hmmmmm....I have been busy googling for info, it is looking better and better! **Red, send me that screen name too..! I don't need to deal with anymore poopheads this year.

Hey guys. I am looking for some baby chicks.... and I was wondering if anyone has any of these breeds they would be willing to sell me? I would LIKE sexed chicks, but at this point it doesn't even matter that much.... Please send me a message if anyone has some! Thank you...!
Blue Ameracaunas
Lavender Orpingtons
Australorp
Delaware
Marans
Green/Olive egg layers
I have some sexed BSL. Three roosters. They are yours if you want. I also have some RIR bantams. They are not sexed. The bantams are great. They dont eat as much food and get lots of the food from free range and the eggs are pretty good size.

The person desert is talking about is me

Yeah Brian, you are a stinker, what can I say. I know this has all been blown out of proportion...both sides! Brian, you thought something was wrong, she has learned a lesson in how to deal with people in selling chickens, chicks, what ever she sells. You both have learned from this..now get off your high horses and behave yourselves. lol..we love you both. A new person learning about having chickens, and a person learning how to do a business...it's all good now..right? We love our peoples here!
I personally will not take back any chicks or chickens that have gone out. Never. That's what I learned NOT to do a long time ago. Not even from a close friend. Had them ask, said, sorry, you know how I am.

So, enough of that. Brian keep updating us with all of those cute chickens .. And..your first egg! I can't wait for you to get your first egg.

Desert, keep us updated on what you have going in your breeding projects. Hoping you will ship some eggs some day. Wouldn't take long for them to get here. At least we would hope it wouldn't. I'm thinking I would like some Welsummer eggs if you ever do ship eggs. You do have Welsummers right?

Lisa..please, let us know what you find on the bug stuff! That sounds soo easy, and it only makes sense! I would so do this.

Sphinx, you just wait, give those funny little SG's a couple of months, then I'll post more pictures of the little ugly ducklings. lol...

I caught wind that there's some quality silkies in Utah! Anyone have any for sale? I'm in Boise ID, but would be willing to meet around the border (think it's about 3 hours drive?).

ETA: Should specify that I'm looking for pullets... splash, partridge, or porcelain.

Thanks Cynthia for defusing the public thread... yea, I've learned a lot. My hatchery business is nothing like the other businesses I have had, too time consuming and stressful...lol. Selling performance horses and Cashmere goats are far easier!!! ...Hahaha!!!

Shipping...hmmmmmm.....I have 10 different breeding flocks plus guineas (five colorations), and yes, some are Welsummers, which are in the project mode, being upgraded to SQ standards with Whitmore Wels and lines from Nate Vanwey. I have recently changed a lot of plans... one being that I simply don't have time to ship.... too busy with live, pre-hatch and farm fresh egg orders (have orders for flocks that aren't even old enough to produce yet...lol), coop/run building, house remodeling, landscaping, stretching fence on another piece of property, etc Also have too much going with the different breeds and different colors right now. I have my Lavender /Black Orp and my Chocolate/Black Orp projects that Pawtraitart in Idaho has helped me with PLUS have the Blehm Ameraucana project going. My Buff, Lav and Black Orps will be infused with Hinkjc lines once they've grown to breeding age. So busy!!! Then there's the Cream Legbar project. So shipping isn't an option, yet...lol. Plus, I've determined that should I decide to ship, I'll go NPIP certified, which is what I've been contemplating for several months.

Maybe someday I'll ship, when I have help or downsize...lol... have had my own businesses (on the side when I had corporate jobs) since I was a kid of 24, and probably only death will force me to slow down. So someday, who knows.

As for taking back chickens, they were never merged back into my flocks, or even near the rest again. My bio-security rules were: nothing goes back near my flocks without Oxine being sprayed every time a person walks near the chick shed and upon arrival. Oxine is used freely here; bought by the case through Revival Animal Heath. Normally I would never have taken them back, but questioned their illness and wanted verification that they were sick, so had to monitor them. I have two other distant properties at my use to control any outbreak. Now, my new rules prevent anyone passing the chick shed, thus preventing anyone near my back coops, which are now closed off to the public.

Yep, I've learned. Hard lesson, but one that was needed.

Hey Casa.... chicken nerds unite!!

Desert, if..you ever decide to sell some eggs ~ once in a while ~

let me know. :)

Gary, are you still interested in any new Silkies..SG's? Or are you waiting now to see if your splash is a girl. I can't wait..tomorrow is day 20 in lock down. I hope they are doing well in there!

Well, we're all learning, right? Brian, Desert:

I shouldn't be so quick to judge before I know both sides. Sorry.
