Utah!

Thanks Speckledhills. It was extremely weird weather. We were actually at Walmart when this all happened. When we pulled in the parking lot and all these green, like olive-green clouds rolled in over the Timp Mountain so fast, they were so low, they were at the roofs of the houses on the base of the mountain and rolled up, engulfing them. We sat there in awe for like 2 minutes watching as it went up the mountain and then it started bouncing off the mountain and started to head back down the mountain. We've never see clouds do this before, they had to have been moving at least 100 miles an hr. Before we knew it they were spinning, and 3 funnels started to form. Next thing we know it Walmart has like 10 employees out in the parking lot screaming at every one to get in the building, They made everyone get into the middle of the store. They then announced that the severe weather reports that there are funnel clouds, and we need to stay away from all doors and windows. Then it just starting raining like I've never heard rain before. It rained for like 20 minutes so hard, water was coming in the emergency exits and the front doors, Walmart was literally flooding. I wish I wouldn't have left my cell phone in the car, because it was the craziest weather I've ever seen. If you looked out the doors, even though we had to stay behind the registers you couldn't see anything but grey, the rain was so thick you couldn't see anywhere. We were told after at least 30 minutes we were allowed to go, but to stay off the main roads and to head straight home. We walked through the parking lot in about 6 inches of water and it was a mess driving back up to our house. We live on the mountain and the road was washed out with dirt and branches all the way home. I feel bad for our neighbor her retaining wall busted and she had about 8 inches of mud in her house. We live less then a 1/4th mile from the Alpine Quail Fire, and the mountain was coming down. It was amazing to see, but the poor families that live down there have had a hard time with the rain all summer.

Its still raining here this morning. My whole run is a mess. This morning since it was pouring so hard last night I didn't do it, I tipped up the baby moveable run, to let all the water run out. Its so muddy out there that I actually decided to lock the Silkies up in the other coop for the day, they were sticking in the mud, and was getting stuck. Poor things. Most of the other girls are still sitting in the coop, not wanting to come out. But its cold outside. Really cold. All of them hatched this spring/summer so they never have been in the cold. This morning it was 48 when I went outside. Glad I brought the almost 5 week old chicks in. They would have froze. Guess they are staying in the house till it all dries out. My other one that I thought was drowned too, is doing okay. Yesterday she had a very hard time standing up, but she was so soaked. She just laid under the heat light. Last night she did get up and stumble over to the food and water and was eating. She seems much better this morning. She was up and about in there when I checked. But I'm still not sure we are out of the clear. She just looks sleepy. But I take eating is a good sign. Poor thing.
wow that is amazing. It rained here as well and is still raining hard. My chickens have chosen to go under the people gazebo rather than the coop today. they look so pitiful. many are in molt and look like rags the other are all wet. some are out wandering around in the rain eating worms.

Wow Karen! That is unreal. We got it pretty bad here too. Brian and Brandi were here when it all started. They were here for a while. There was a lot of lightening and thunder, pretty loud, went on for quite a while up on our hill here. Raining this morning, but nothing like yesterday. Had a son go to the BYU game, had to wait I guess..quite a while for them to start. They won, so my son says..that was awesome! :)
My chickens this morning went for the lay mash like no other. It's weird, it seems they don't like eating wet grass. Only in the summer when it's really hot, then they will eat it where a sprinkler has been. But they've been out and around the yard, in the rain, then hiding under something when it comes down a little harder for a while.
Today, I put some fresh mash down, they all ate it so fast they were coughing. I don't like it when they do that.
It's a powder mash, but they sure do love it. I get a big ol garbage can full at Leland Mills. It's like getting a free bag when I go there and fill my can.
My little new Seramas are nice and dry, and don't seem to mind this weather at all. They are out and about in there covered run.
Have a good day all...try and stay dry.

Gary, you were right. Bumble foot...on both the RIR's, not just the one...so, they are still twins, with their feet wrapped. How often did you change your chickens foot before it was healed? When I cut into the one you noticed...so much puss came out ... right now! That has to be a relief. I swear, it got worse over night, because she wasn't walking different or holding it up. Today, she was standing at the back door with her foot up, as to say, hey, fix this please. :) I hope it doesn't take long. It didn't take long for the leghorn I did a couple of years ago.

I'm wondering if I will get any eggs from them tomorrow, they lay every day. There is my RIW..wish she would start laying. I don't have any vet wrap, I just used what I had here.. gauze for padding and wrapping, then used a lot of bandage tape. Pretty sticky. Neo on the padding that went onto the opened plug. The first one I got out pretty easily..it came out nice and clean. The other girls wasn't as big, so when I pulled the plug off, it broke..had to cut the rest out..got it though.

Cynthia, your warp job looks great! I didn't have any vet tape either, in fact all i had was duct tape :) I changed it about every 3 days for a few weeks until it looked good enough to keep off. Im going to half to check my flock after i come back from the deer hunt. Best to catch it before all the wet weather comes, easy to keep the bandaids clean and dry.
