Utah!

About a month ago I got 4 eggs from Lisa...well...my Cuckoo named Honker hatched out two of the eggs. Both Turkens!

Thanks Lisa!

Gee those look so familiar lol! So very cute. I could see one is a paint, is the other one solid or does it have spots? I am telling you, I have a handful of these now and they are the sweetest little babies, I cannot seem to part with any of the ones I have left. I fully intended to sell them all and I just can't do it :D ***I have the last batch hatching next week and I really cannot keep any more, so hopefully you guys on here will want some then I will have a good reason to send them along......****hint, hint!!
Hey, I love Honker, I see why you named her that! Is she the one Wendy and I picked up in Salt Lake and took to Blujems as a supposed rooster? So funny!

What are the signs of Egg Bound? I'm about in tears because my FBCM/Legbar mix that I got from Wendy is not doing good at all. I'm worried sick about her. She has been in the nest box off and all for almost a week, which I wasn't too worried about since all the other girls took about 5-7 days to lay their first egg. I believe she was hatched the first week of May. So I'm guessing she is of age, yesterday she sat, and sat and sat. And I couldn't get her to move. I would take her out of the box, and back in she would go. But yesterday she was walking just fine. And I know she ate, because I gave them mellon, and this made her get out of the box for a while.

This morning, she is walking like she is hovering the ground. Her tail is pointed down as far as it will go till it hits the ground, she is like crawling, and waddling when she walks. Her wings are spread out like she is trying to balance. She is only walking about 2 to 3 feet and then lays down almost like she is laying an egg. She is all buffed out, and she looks like she is sitting on eggs or chicks. At least like the pictures I've seen.

HELP, I'm so worried that she is either sick all of a sudden or got an injury some how. She is eating though. I did throw out some grain to see what she would do, and she waddled over to eat some.

I'm so sorry Wendy. I feel awful, I don't want to lose her.

Sorry Silly, I also have sad news.
Maybe your girl will be ok. Actually, it can take a while for them to get going. I have a sexlink that has been worrying me the same way. She just stands around, goes under the coop..so I put some food out that I know they just love, to make sure that she would eat..she gobbled it up..so, eating, drinking..good sign, just have to wait for that egg. I know she's really ready too.

I went out to a dead chick this morning. My Rhodebar! She's been acting fine! I check on these babies every day, they are out in the nursery. Food, water, a 120 W. bulb for the night. I only had two Rhodebar eggs, one hatched, I was lucky enough to get a girl..and now..she's gone. All of the others are running around just fine. This is really a mystery. No pasty bum. I can't think of the why. I just can't.

Oh Cynthia, I am so sorry. I think sometimes chickens have birth defects/genetic defects. Think of all the human babies that look ok upon birth, but they quickly realize something is off? We examine them so much more closely than we do our chicks. I think it sometimes just happens.

Silly, I know that you really like Sheriff a lot. I hope for yours and your daughter's sake, she snaps out of it. Her behavior seems really odd though. I have no idea what to make of it. I really hope she gets better quickly.

Yes 7-11 ranch is still here. It's a good place to eat. I have several bantams, Rhode island reds and golden sex links also. I have 4 bantam roosters too. I'm new to this site and still tying to figure it out. Haha. I have 24a quail eggs that i jus put in the incubator today thanks to Lisa!

Karen, is she panting? Can you mix some olive oil in with her food? If they're egg bound, you can usually feel an egg-sized lump in their abdomen (gently). Try separating her and putting her somewhere nice and private. I have read that putting the bird in a very warm, steamy bathroom can help them relax so that they pass the egg more easily. Good luck.

Cynthia, so sorry you lost your little Rhodebar

She was darling. Sometimes they just need to go.

I'm sorry to say that I haven't made much progress on the job search. I do have places that I can go and do telemarketing work, but I have been putting it off. I've mostly been taking care of things around home or just kind of sitting around. I know it sounds pathetic, but I don't have much heart to care about things right now. Soon here, though, I will need to go back to work. There are bills to be paid and I don't want my family to struggle because of me. And, for those following my drama train, the pre-trial for my BF is October 11 at 9 am. They could possibly get things settled then, but somehow I really, really doubt it. There's just too much deceit going on on the ex's end. The whole thing is making me sick. My stomach has decided that even when it's hungry, it doesn't want food, on pain of um, donating it to the toilet. Sorry, I'm not trying to worry anyone or annoy anyone. Just venting.

Hello everyone. I am in Devils Tower Wyoming. I was so excited to go on vacation. Its beautiful here. There is a momma Doe and her fawn that hang around the campground, We went to the tower this morning. What an impressive landmark. I rode my scooter all over the hiking trails. I was amazed at how well it did, WAtched some climbers doing their thing very interesting. So far we've seem antelope, deer, buffalo prarie dogs. Yester day just at dark we were driving and looked out drivers side window, There was a buffalo. told Ed how neat it was to see one buffalo. Then I looked out my side window and there was a HUGE herd of buffalo. probably about 500 of them. Very impressive.

Sundance, I'm glad you are enjoying your vacation! I saw Devil's Tower once when I was 6. It was huuuuuge, lol. Be safe and have fun. No more blown tires!

So I watched a million egg bound youtube video's today. Some look like her others not so much. She has been in the box just about all day long. She will drink if I get her out of the box and put her face in the fountain water. We have 2 nipple buckets that they usually use, so the fountain water has been like a water cooler out there today, they have all hung out around it all day. So I know she's eating and drinking, cause if I throw out treats she goes and eats. As far as walking, she is getting worse. She is so wobbly, and is literally crawling now. But she jumps up to the nest box that is about 18 inches off the ground just find. I'm not sure if she is laying up there because its better then the ground with all the straw or if she really needs to lay an egg. I'm so worried about her. Her coloring looks normal for her. Her eyes are bright and clear, its just they way she is walking or I should say crawling and the way her tail is all the way down, and her wings spread out all funny. I'm almost wondering if she fell off the roost in the coop, we have a few that are at least 5 feet high, and I have seen them all once or twice fly down but hit the ground hard. I don't know what she could have done, she was fine last night and this morning not fine at all.

I don't think its a diet issue, they have free for all free range, they get fresh fruit and Vegs. I have one feeder with flock grower, and one feeder with layer. And a feeder with oyster shell. I'm worried sick that I'm going to loose her and I don't know what I will tell my daughter. I had to fight with her today to leave her alone. I think she sat out in the coop petting her for over an hour in her nest box. She is so upset about it.

I'm worried about it being so cold outside tonight with her. Do you think I should bring her in the house and put her in a crate. Its really dang cold out there today, and tonight you need a coat on. Fall is coming :( I hate the cold temps.
