Or they are figuring out who is boss.

So are we sure they are really fertile. Here are today's eggs that we cooked up. They were all laid yesterday. I took them out in the sun for hopefully a better pictures. They are hard to take because of the glare.

Fertile!

Red..is that girl on a nest of eggs the leghorn mix?

So since we are all in agreement that they are in fact fertile. I want to get a basic incubator. I've been looking and most hold dozens of eggs. What is a good one that is just for like 6-8 eggs. I can't keep any of these chicks, unless I for sure re-home some. But I really dying to incubate them. I might just have to keep one or two and get rid of a few outside.

Any thoughts. Its driving me mad. I do have 2 from today sitting on my counter with the pointy side down, and the fat side up. Any other tips. I've never incubated anything, and I need to go get an incubator.

The very same. She's already raised two broods this year. I love her

Sphinx has a small Brinsea that holds about 7 eggs maximum, I think. It's worked really well for her.

I was thinking of getting the Brinsea Mini or a Hova Bator Still/Thermal Air Incubator 1602. But they are both manual turn, which is okay with me, but I'm nervous that if I manual turn them I will do something wrong. All the ones that have auto turn are like over $150 and not really knowing if these eggs are fertile, and only doing it for fun I don't want to spend too much on one. Any thoughts on the Hova Bator. It has really good reviews and I think I can add a turner to it if I ever want too.

Oh I'm pretty sure it wont be a waste of money. I think everyone one started out saying "I'm only doing it for fun", now look at us. It is so addicting. What ever you get you will be happy even if only one egg hatches. Just remember it only takes one then your addicted.

Well I'm leaning towards the Hova Bator right now, because I can add the turner to it, because I know I will probably want to do it again. Now we are all really think they are fertile. And does anyone have some fertile eggs I can through in the incubator with the ones I get from my girls. I'm so nervous they won't hatch since I really don't 100% know who the Roo is outside, and my 5 year old is so dang excited we will have baby chicks again. I already told her that we will probably most likely not be keeping them at least not all of them. I have 18 right now, and I have to thin them out.

But now thinking about it. I might keep about 10 of the 18 and then re-home the others, so I can have fun hatching through out the summer, but I will probably have to buy eggs. Because once Mr. Quiet guy outsides starts screaming in the mornings, he's going to have to go.

I was kind of thinking maybe get some quail. Do they sell well if I get some? Because I've heard those suckers have like a million eggs a week.

Karen, if I come your way I would be glad to bring fertile quail eggs. Mine are back to laying again, they have taken a few really abrupt weird breaks, but back on this week :) Not sure how soon it would be though. If you are this way I would be glad to save some for you!

That NN has no pointies that I could see....face looks just like two of my three NN layers. Not sure what to think about your dilemma~! Maybe the Brahma is the culprit? There IS a lot of red going one. And it is a little younger right? Hatchery sexed females are boys all the time, surely it is possible!
