Karen, the Little Giant is great..I have one of those too.

It's my very first one. I have an egg in it right now. A lonely little egg. I hatched two Rhodebars and a Marans today for the Hatch A Long. A boy and a girl. Plus, one of the Marans made it. It is such a pretty blue! But, I think it's a boy already. :/ If anyone wants a blue Marans roo in the future, let me know..unless it ends up looking girly of course. :)
What is a Rhodebar?

No that is not helping. I think it will hold like 30 or more eggs. Now where would I get 30 plus eggs, but I should because that will be my luck them all hatching. What would I do with 30 chicks in the end of January. My girls "IF" they are really fertile are only giving me 3-4 eggs a day, and I don't know if they will be good if I don't get them when they are warm to the touch, I got 2 today that where like frozen, so I stuck those in the fridge.

Now the "IF" I'm still trying to figure out how I have fertile eggs. hahahah

Madchicken, that is such a lovely egg, and so early too! Congratulations!

Silly, I can't remember. Is your new incubator a still air or forced air. 99.5 is good for a forced air, but still air should be around 101. Good luck!!

Unless they are frozen solid, I wouldn't count those eggs out!! People hatch refrigerated eggs all the time... even fertile ones from the grocery store!!! Mother Nature is pretty resilient...

Its a still air. I never got around to getting it out of the box today. I'm going to first thing in the morning. Hopefully there is instructions in there. I'm planning on having it up and running at least a full 24 hour before I set the eggs. Plus I need to run over and pick some up from Gary.

I got new photo's of the Light Brahma, and the Speckled Sussex since both were the only ones that didn't squat for me the other day. But I'm kind of leaning towards the very slow growing Sussex. I never really noticed until today, but the tail feathers look like they are starting to curve over.

The Light Brahma is almost 5 months old, and the Speckled Sussex is almost 6 months old

They are so cute. I'm so excited to have some little chicks again, but so very nervous I'm going to do something wrong, and kill them somehow. The guy at IFA was really helpful. He told me to leave the temp at 99.5-99.9 and have the humidity at 50% or so and towards the end I need to raise it up to 65%. So I hope this is all right. I'm going to get it out of the box and set it up tonight. I'm just trying to decide where to put it, my house downstairs is so cold, and my upstairs goes from cold in the morning to really hot at night.

I'm really thinking of putting them up in my loft, so that way there is no way the kids or the dogs will be anywhere near them. But I'm afraid of the temp. change upstairs. It does get about 76 somedays up there, and at night goes down to around 69. But of course I will be hand turning them, so I guess I will be watching the temp throughout the day doing that.

Any pointers?

I do more of the dry hatch, meaning not alllll dry. I incubate around the mid 30's. I don't worry at all if it drops, even down to 16. Really, the humidity isn't as important at this point as the temp. Keep the temp where the guy told you. With the dry air, you can have it go up to 101 without realizing it and not worry too much, but get it back down to the 99 to 100. I like 100. Then, when it's time for lock down, I keep mine around 60 to 62. The hardest part for people I've found, during lock down, is to not open the bator..now having said that, I don't worry too much about opening it early on in the first day as I try and get the humidity where I want it, by putting an extra sponge in if needed. Then after that...no peeking! With the lid up that is! lol...have fun with it, don't stress, just expect some babies. You will get some.
Oh, good thought as to where you put the bator. You will want to find the spot, then keep it there. The bator will stay pretty much on the same temp once it gets regulated. Yes, room temps do change during day and night. That's why I like my temp set at 100. A degree change either way during the night is ok. Once you put those eggs in, the temp will drop a bit..don't worry about that! Let the bator regulate again. It will get back up to where you had it set.

Double post? On the pictures? I'm trying to figure out who the rooster is. Frustrating like nothing other.

So I'm setting up the incubator right now. I poured water in the water holders in the bottom, and stuck the temp/humidity thing inside, just turned it on. Do I need to put sponges in the water rings or just water.
