Hey Lil! Good to see you. How is it going with the chicken/neighbor/ saga---your neighbors behaving? Been wondering if you still had chickens, roosters, neighbors...lol Hope it is going ok!

Red beat me to part of this, land race breeds such as Icelandic and Swedish Flower Hens, are good foragers. From my own experience, Bresse are insanely good foragers. Love those birds.

yeah with that honey it would go fast, the raw local kind is the best, many will pay more for it than the processed kind. i would be tempted to buy some too. i horde honey. i mean it never goes bad, it has so many medical uses and a person can actually survive on honey and wheat alone. i have several gallons of honey stored and plan to add more.

for chicken feed i feed the nutrina all flock at cal ranch, it makes up for about 40% of their diet in the winter, less in summer. and then they get tons of my scratch mix i make up then tons of food scraps like bread, fruit, veggie and meat trimmings and any other safe food waste we have. in the warm weather they get massive amounts of yard trimmings, bugs etc. the less food i buy the better plus all that different food makes for better eggs and happy hens btw my scratch mix is whole grains, sometimes i add a grain and the next time i may leave it out, i try to cater to their needs. but the main things are always black oil sunflower seed (the best price i have found is at cal ranch and they are not treated so you can plant them too) , the other gains i get at ifa. i use wheat (one has more protein than the other) and whole oats. i also will add at times milo tho have not done so lately as its bad for rabbits and my rabbits share the chicken run. right now with the cold weather i have whole corn mixed in. i have used whole peanuts in shell, my girls go crazy for them and open them up on their own. i mix in things like different dried pasta that i have gotten from family members that were going to throw it out for some reason. or any other thing i think would be good for them. oh and i mix de in as it will keep bugs out and its good for them. whole grain keeps longer, is often cheaper, they eat it fine and you can plant some

Neighbors are happy now that all of the roosters are gone. I had to process my beautiful lavender ameraucana boy and a bantam something or other. All I have left are girls now. Some of the new girls are laying now. All of the bresse are, except the one from September...though she may because I did get four bresse eggs in one day. My EE and Am girl are not laying yet, and neither is the little cochin girl. As many chickens as I have, I don't get very many eggs

Still looking for a new house, but not completely focused on the chicken thing. It feels like it is too late now and all the work and money I put in to starting my little business and breeding program has gone down the drain. I don't want to leave Salt Lake County so areas that I could keep livestock are pricy. Then on top of that, all it takes is one neighbor complaint and bye-bye to it all over again. I don't even know how you find a place that is protected. Per the AC folks, every time someone buys a property, the grandfathers and zoning change. I suppose that's why I have been absent for a bit. The thought of chickens has been depressing for a while, lol.

This reminds me, I came over initially because I was browsing through houses and saw what I believe is SunnyBrooke farm (I think that was the name). Anyone have any information on that?

ETA: I should point out that a house to fit us needs to fit 6+ people. That could be part of the expense

Lil--I saw that she is selling her place---looks like a really nice property.! Lots of horse amenities if I remember right?
Sorry to hear about your roos having to go. That is a bummer, I totally get why it ruined the fun for a bit. Glad to see you back around though!
