Utah!

there was an add on ksl a few days ago someone in Idaho selling Buff Orpington eggs. they come to salt lake ever week, if you have a broody or an incubator.
Actually now that I am reading more about what a broody hen looks like, I think my RIR might be...If she is how long would she stay that way? And if I got the eggs what should I do after that? I have a separate coop now(I could give the old one just to her and the eggs)

FYI, the Cal Ranch in Tooele tends to be better in service and chick quality than the others, if anyone goes out that way.

Silly, the baby with the coppy could possibly be a girl. does it have copper on it's back? Cynthia got one like that from one of my eggs and she was gorgeous.

Pancake, I love Angelo! What kind of tablet do you use to draw?

Ace, love the babies <3 And everyone's babies, really.

My neighbor down the street is taking some of my chickens soon. He has mentioned that he really likes the Icelandic roosters I have, so he may end up with one of those, too. His neighbors like having one around.

Red I just went and looked and she is just fuzzy black on the back so far. That copper just started coming in, Only 7 days today. She is the biggest off all the chicks, but it also came out of that huge egg that you said that might not hatch. I so hope shes a girl. I love the colors coming in.

Tankgirl...broody hens are easy to spot. They will not leave the nest, you can pick them up and take them out and they will go right back in. A good way to make sure they will stay broody is buy some wood eggs from a hobby store and let her sit on them. If she stays on them for a week straight she will probable stay on them. i have one that has stayed broody for 10 weeks until she finally hatched some eggs.

Well, I thought she was showing signs of broodiness. She hasn't lest the coop for 3 days, she has been sitting on some golf balls. But now I'm not wondering if she isn't sick...I just went outside and took her out of the nesting box and put her on the floor and she kinda just plopped down. I took her out of the coop to the waterer and she didn't want anything to do with it. The dog even came over and sniffed her and she just sat there(not stood) normally she would run away from him. She is my hardest one to catch. She is also the one that doesn't like to be pet or held much and she is just sitting there very calm while I pet her. Then I took her in the coop and got a handful of feed and layed it right in front of her and she wanted nothing to do with it either. :( Awwww I hope shes not sick! I checked her for parasites and she look good.

Remember the guessing game?

Lisa went to Cal ranch....
Who can guess what breeds I bought :D
Who can guess how many breeds I bought :D
Who can guess how many chicks total I bought :D

It was so funny, they had the signs, and no one knew which breeds the chicks were so I helped them out. They had just unloaded the chicks and turned on the lamps, not even filled the feeders yet. They were cheeping like mad, and I just could not resist, they were so new and cute. And fluffy. They said I was the first chick customer of 2014. How cool is that? I was pretty excited about that, it made my day!

Like Gary said, they usually go right back, but I have had them just hunker down right where I put them...is she making a very small clucking noise? Like march, march, march, march.....haha :D
