Good morning all. I have a funny story for you, that only my fellow chicken people could understand. Yesterday, my three year-old woke with a kink in her neck. Poor thing was in a lot of pain. My first thought when my DH told me was, "Oh no! I hope she doesn't have Marek's!" I had a major panic thinking my child had Marek's for a moment, then I realized that she is not a chicken. I had to laugh a bit at myself over that.

Lilwanis, I can get you some fertile eggs for your broody if you want them. I'll even be in SLC showing houses in the morning...

Cynthia, I admire you for trying to rescue all these babies. I hope she makes it. What variety of polish is she? I have to admit I'm staying far, far away from the feed stores right now. Sorry about your dh's gout. I've heard that can be really painful.

I'm not sure my broody is all that good at being broody. I keep catching other chickens on her nest (no, Miss Silkie and NO, Miss EE, you may NOT go broody too and share the nest!). I'm going to move her to the broody pen and see if that helps. As it is, I'm not too optimistic about these eggs' chances of hatching. I'll try candling tonight, but with it being only 4 days in AND FBCM eggs, it'll be tough.

You really must find that gal some fertile eggs!!  I have my first broody of the year that is really serious... most of them bail when I move them into the broody pens.. this australorp has earned a dozen icelandic eggs due to hatch in a week though!!!

I might have to break down and buy some icelandic chicks from you this year. Both that hatched here look like boys, getting red in the comb already

On another note, the 2nd generation SBEL's from you are turning into the most amazingly stunning birds. We have one that is all blue with copper tinged ends on the feathers with big black eyes and an orange head, she is gorgeous, there are others that started looking like wheatens, but are turning into such pretty birds with all kinds of speckling. Another lady bought most of them...I was visiting her house tonight, I just could not believe all the colors you get in the 2nd generation!

I have two people that have been super persistent calling me about the SBEL's, could I reserve a dozen chicks to buy from you so I can bring them back for these people? I will go ahead and repost on the chickenstock thread to be sure you see this.

Cynthia, so sorry to hear about Scott! That stuff is awful, glad he got it diagnosed and I am HOPING it is improving or feeling a little better tonight!

Your buff Silkie is AMAZING, She turned out adorable. She has the longest beard, it's awesome!

Thank you Lisa, I came back on tonight to take her off for sale. I just can't do it. She is a sweet bird. I guess if I get the other two colors I can be happy with, I'll have three silkies.
That chick I rescued..I thought was a silkie. Just looked at that cap, and thought silkie. But it's a Polish..I guess. Who knows. Anyway she/he is still alive. Has a beak like a Polish. It just may make it.

I sure hope so. It is so discouraging to see those babies in the store struggling....dying...with all the commotion around and no caring touch or attention, or love for its little soul. That might sound corny to some, but honestly, just a little baby laying there like that breaks my heart. It is so sweet that you can bring them home...either to show it kindness before it passes on or to give it what it needs to survive and want to live! Dang store employees ought to do better. It's disgusting. The Cal ranch here tonight had waterers filled with damp shavings, no water at all...and the banties brooder light was not down close enough and they were just shivering and shaking, one was yelling its little head off. Gee I wonder why? Poor babies.

I bet you will be glad you kept that buff. She is really pretty!

I will have some hatch for Easter and plan on taking any left to Chickenstock...  You can for sure reserve some...and pick them up there..

We are going down to the lake tomorrow and getting reeds to make mason bee nest. Has anyone else made them and if so are they hollow all the way through or do you cut the reed just above a knuckle?
