have you guys seen the argumenton KSL about chase hatchery? She lives very close to me and I have gotten eggs just hatching to put under my broodys. She lives in a subdivision and keeps all the chicks in her garage. I guess she bought all of sunnybrooks supplies when christie moved to logan

Carolyn is great. She was our vet throughout my childhood and knew my mom pretty well. I remember we adopted a siamese 3-legged cat from her. I bet she'd remember him. His name was isosceles lol she always remembered that everytime we brought him up even yrs later lol. I brought several of my cats/dog there over the years to get neutered/shots but now I take them to that Best friends clinic by macies in Orem.

I had not seen that ...Kristeen Chase, I talked to her a few times about getting silkies, she did get Christie's old brooders, Christie was telling me about her...she was saying her parent stock came from Cackle Hatchery so I was thinking she had just started this not too long ago so I decided to wait on getting any from her. I will have to go see about finding the article....the website makes it look more like a family farm not a garage LOL

Hi!

We started the coop and run today. So much for low profile--it'll be 6 ft wide, 10 ft long, and 5 ft tall when it's finished. We're going to start replacing slats in our fence soon and change from 5 foot to 6 foot tall. Maybe passer-bys will just think it's a kids playhouse.

Still unsure about the BLRW. It's finally getting a few tail feathers and I keep hoping it's just a week younger than the others and that's why it's behind.

My daughter named it grey cloud.

Thinking of emailing the 2 newest council members to see if they would support revisiting the chicken ordinance issue. Not sure if that's playing with fire or not.

I hope you're right! I really want the wheaten colored one to be a girl! I love the coloring. The two white ones I'm more indifferent on, we also have a leghorn and Delaware in the brooder as well. I mean, I want two blue egg layers, but if one has to be a roo I'd rather have it be a white one!

I got hatching eggs from her too, just to fill up my incubator for the Hatch Along. I only got 6 eggs from her. I thought it was really odd that she could run that out of her house like that. She had at least 200 chicks when I was there, they were crammed in all the totes, you couldn't see any flooring in just about all of them, and I would be a little unsure of what I would have bought from her if I did buy chicks. Because I asked her what she had for hatching eggs, and she began to tell me about the chicks in all the totes, but some of them I clearly knew was different then what she was telling me. So who knows. I asked her is she brought in chicks, and she said that she gets them from hatcheries and she is breeding her own too. I was really shocked that she could do all that in Taylorsville

But just so you know, I had my 6 year old pick out the eggs, we came home with 3 Leghorns, 1 Black Sexlink, and 2 Welsummer eggs. The 3 leghorns are going strong, I pulled the Sexlink at 7 days. and the 2 Welsummers, I don't know, I can't see in them. So at least I can tell you her eggs are fertile. Not sure if they are going to be turn 100%. She told me that she has several roosters to each breed. Which also surprised me, for where she lived you wouldn't think she could have that many chickens, let alone roosters.

Kimmy the bottom one looks like a boy ...the top one and second to the last one look like girls, not sure on the others....I have rehomed 3 that looked like boys, I have two or three I am certain are girls, and a couple of those tomboys we never know about....haha

Honestly, I was not impressed with her. I dont want to get into a debate incase you all like her but I dont mind sharing my experience with you if you want to hear it. But basically, I was not pleased with the conditions she keeps soo many chicks all in a tiny garage connected to her house. That cannot be healthy. And several of the chicks I got from her died. I joined here instead to locate more because I do not want to buy from there again. She's a nice lady and I LOVE her bearded silkies, they look like good quality but it's just not worth the risk to me of possibly loosing more. I put so much time into trying to keep these babies alive and so many died the first week. I am very glad someone suggested joining byc, because ive had a wonderful time meeting so many nice people and already finding more bearded silkies

I think the chicks are about 7 weeks no, and were about 6 weeks old in the pics. They will be moving outside this week!

Were all three different chickens? I would look at comb color at this point. The second to the last has a very light pink tone, which would probably mean it's a hen. The one with the more red comb is most likely a rooster. You can look at their waddles too. The ones that go bright red around 7 to 8 weeks are usually roos. The nice thing is that they are all the same breed so you can compare then wtih one another!
