Lisa.. have you ordered from California Country Ranch?
Nope! None from them yet. best price I found was Rivendell Farms on Ebay. Decent quality. Teeny teeny size.
Thanks Lisa! I love showgirls! So, if you cross a SG with a silkie do you always get a SG? What about if both the roo and hen are SGs? Not so great? Like when you have 2 frizzles and their poor babies are frazzles? I am loving this website for all of the amazing things I'm learning! No really! I researched and read a ton of things on chick and chicken care before I got my babies...but I learn at least 1 if not 20 new things about breeding and showing and incubation and hatching and everything else poultry related every day! I love it!![]()
When you cross the Showgirl and full feathered Silkie, you get some of each. That is the best way to go though if you want to keep the bowties fluffy on the showgirls that you do get. If you cross the Showgirl to Showgirl, it depends on the feathering...there are some problems with exposed keels and butts when you do this( sparsely feathered butts and chests) but if you do it and they are both non-bowtied you will get all non bowtied showgirls, (naked all the waaaaay down to the chest) if you cross one with a bowtie and one without out you get a few with bowties but mostly not.....if you cross two bowtied showgirls you will still get some bowtied and some not, the bowties might not be as fluffy....does that make sense? You have to keep adding some fluffy silkie genes in there to keep the fluffiness going or they go more and more bald.
