Utah!

sorry... I need a place to vent that isn't on Facebook, where my neighbor can see...

I am so ready to call Animal Control on my neighbor's dog... it's a huge yellow lab (they got it as a rescue) but he is NOT a safe dog.... I don't feel safe with him around my kids, I don't feel safe with him around me. He got out of his yard today, and INTO my back yard (I had my gate open, because I was out with my chicks in the shed). He chased my cat, and I didn't even notice he got in, I went out of my yard, shut the gate, and went inside the house.... I got into my house, and saw him at my back door! I sternly said "GO HOME!" and he raised his hackles at me, and growled.... and then I realized I had shut the gate, so I went around from my garage, and opened the back gate, and again told him to go home, and again, he growled and raised his hackles, walked past me, turned around, walked up not looking at me, and did it again. I stood my ground, and told him again, and he finally went home.

I'm so glad I didn't have chickens out.... I can guarantee he would have killed them....

on another note.... if my little OEGB doesn't stop being a bully to my new black silkie that I got from iluvmysilkies, I'm going to have to find her a new home. My little black silkie is too sweet, she just cowers in the corner when my OEGB is in there, because she'll go, grab a beakful of feathers, and rake her with her feet :(. Right now, I've got the OEGB separated, and she absolutely hates it. She's only about 4 weeks old, and is the smallest one of the group (well, one of the smallest, my bantam cochins are wider, but about the same size lol)
yes, quoting myself.... not find the silkie a new home, I'm going to find the OEGB a home. She is sweet too.... she is just being a bully right now.

I'm so very sorry about the dog. I would actually talk to your neighbor first, its actually against the law for the dog to be running free. And they could actually get a dog at large fine as well as any other fine that they see fit. I would just tell them I don't want your dog in my backyard, and your dog shows signs of being aggressive, so you should probably keep him in your yard so they aren't fined. Or just call animal control next time hes out running if you don't want to talk to your neighbor. But they need to know that their dog could possible bite someone and that is a huge mess, and usually animal control will make them destroy the dog.

On your little OEGB, last year my Japanese Bantam was such a turd. She was actually fine with the chicks she came with, and I had them outside in a grow out pen with my older hens for about a month before I tried to put them all together. She would actually try to attack that other hens thought the fence, so she is actually named the "Beast" Once we tried to put them all together, she would actually chase the older hens that are double/triple her little size, and attack them. I actually put her back in the grow out pen all by herself on several occasions. It took a few times for a few days straight for her to start to be nice. But it did take about a month for her to knock it off. And she hated being by herself, she would pace and pace up and down the fence. Good Luck, but keep with it.

I did send my neighbor a message on Facebook, and I tried to keep it as nice as possible.... just saying he was out, and got into my backyard, and I didn't feel safe with him being loose.

maybe my chick has 'little chick syndrome' ;) where she has to act like the biggest bully to show she's superior :p

what makes me even more frustrated, is that the OEGB didn't do that the 1.5 weeks ago when I got the other silkie! :p Don't worry though, none of the other chicks are bothering her except an occasional pecking order peck on the head, which doesn't seem to really bother her. Just my gosh darn little stinker OEGB! *sigh*
Maybe your OEGB thinks its the boss of the flock and bigger then everyone lol. I hope they can all get along soon. She's probably pretty confused because she's used to cuddling with her siblings :) but if she's eating/drinking then im sure she'll be fine so long as your other baby doesent continue picking on her. I hope it gets better today.

when do i need to take the chicks out of the incubator. they are up and moving a little bit. the newest one is about 2 hours old. and still wet. do i need to take out the shells and bad eggs so they have more room. 1 is still zipping and 1 looks like it might have stoped. its just a little Brinsea.

I will snatch out chicks once they hatch, I will grab an egg if I can do it quick. Still want to keep the humidity up if you have eggs left to hatch.

Silly yes! I got 15 babies! Here are a few photos...

This one is my favorite. Could be an Ameraucana Silkie mix..waiting for a reply from
the gal I got the eggs from. Love that face!

I really like this one too...

And this one doesn't show it much, but it has a smoky hue to it. My DH came out
of the room, and says, there is one in there that looks smoky, it's pretty. :D

Only one blue...

This one is really cute, it has a puffy face too..and has a light brown chipmunk coloring.

OMG... I look out the window and the silkies are out in the mud digging up worms. I've never seen them wet, hilarious. Everyone else is up in the covered run, not them. Silly girls. Too bad the wet poulrty has closed.

Oh my goodness Karen...lol..I was going to say that..too bad the wet photo contest isn't still open!!! That's great..lol..Ha, I am loving the look on the last one like she's saying...What..are you looking at? You never seen a wet chicken before??

Nice chicks Cynthia, they are so cute! Mine are getting big, I miss the fluffy. They aren't so fluffy anymore.

Are you talking about their faces? I have noticed that a lot of the fluff goes away for a while, then it comes back big time in the EE's..Ameraucanas.
