Wait, wait! Ha ha...when I went to bed, the thought of you two talking about this guy on ksl was still on my mind. bitsy, you say you have been to his house? I think I do know him!! Does he live close to DI? In a culd a sac? If it's him, I bought a bird from him about a yr. and a half ago. He was nice..??
He has bought two from me. In fact, just last fall..needed another laying hen, his laying hens were molting I think. Wanted eggs. He was nice! ?? Now, I really do have to call him. I've never known him to have anything but LF. Silkies? I would buy his birds, if it's the guy I'm thinking of. He keeps them very clean, and he showed me around his back yard, took me over to the coop he made for the smaller pullets he was growing out. It was amazing! That thing would keep human happy to stay in during a winter storm.
Going to go call, and see if it's him, and ask him why he has silkies. LOL....

Sundance, I think a chickenstock in SL would be WONDERFUL! i hope it can get pulled together!

Ace/Sundancen, I'll be in SL both Saturday and Sunday, so I can pick up eggs from Sundance and get them to my house. That'd be a bit of your drive shaved off. I could even toss in some FBCM eggs if you want.

I can't believe that silkie guy was so rude!

I had a kind of traumatic hatching experience. On Sunday morning, I had an egg pip. It was at the wrong end, so I was watching it carefully. By Sunday night, since it hadn't changed at all, I widened the hole a little. The way I help eggs is that I don't mess with the membrane at all, but peel away the shell a bit.

Allllll day Monday goes by, and very little progress. So Monday night, I removed the shell all around where it would zip. Normally, it would be out within 10 minutes of that. I went to bed, figuring it'd be all fluffed out by morning.

Tuesday morning I get up, and it's STILL in the egg. Alive, but struggling. I decide to peel it out completely. I'm sure glad I did. It was completely stuck. The egg white stuff had acted as glue, and the poor thing would never have gotten out. I had to run the body under warm running water just to unstick the membrane from it's body. I rinsed it off as best I could, and put it back in the incubator to dry. A few hours later, it's down was still all glued down, so I rinsed it again. Then it started to fluff up. I have two broody hens outside, a silkie (untried as a mother) and my bantam frizzle that I got from Sundance last year who raised three chicks well. I'd put 4 eggs out there for them, but only 1 is still alive (I think the silkie isn't so good about being on the nest consistently). I figured I'd give the chick to the frizzle and let the silkie continue to sit on the egg. Put the chick under the frizzle and things *seemed* ok.

Went back an hour later to check and the chick was off in a corner of the coop, nearly frozen to death, and both of the stupid broodies sitting on their nests. So, I brought the baby back into the house and stuck it in the incubator again. I decided I don't trust either broody if they were going to reject a chick like that, so took the eggs away from them and put them in the incubator. Hope to have all broodies broken by the time I leave to go out of town (I have a total of FOUR broody hens. UGH), because I'm not sure the kids will think to check under the broody hens for eggs while I'm gone.

Ha! Just got off of the phone with Randy..it is him! We had a nice conversation. lol... I asked him, what are you doing with silkies? You always have just LF. He says for the grandchildren, and talk of the flock bird. He has someone coming from Mapleton to pick up his last white, he thinks..he said when he gets a min. he will go check and see what he has for me. I told him, they have to have muffs..!

I asked him, are they ones pictured in the ad. He says yes, and I say, the don't looked muffed...he says, they aren't muffed. I say, you know that because of who you purchased the eggs from, he says yes. I told him that I had just hatched some beautiful muffed babies, but, I didn't get my white. He told me that he would watch around and let me know if he sees any muffed whites for sale. I like Randy.

Maybe his texts come across the wrong way..can't hear his tone. He's really laid back, talks slow. Loves his chickens though. I have seen him catch a chicken with a net.
In fact, I tried that a couple of times, once in front of Wendy! Ha..I don't do that any more, I know the tricks of getting them into the coop, and once I do, I can catch them pretty easily.
If anyone is interested, I think he said he has a partridge left. I would buy from him, he has well birds. He hatched these silkies himself. So should be good.

You should lol. I just wish I couldve saved that lil partridge from him now that I know what kind of life they have. Even if I didnt end up keeping it, and found it a better home then being there. I wasent sure what quality it would turn into but I was interested in that one because I think some partridges turn out really pretty and thought there might be a chance it was bearded and the pic he sent looked like it might be, so I was just trying to make out what the gender may be just to give me a guess since its 6 weeks and I could already tell my splash was looking boy-ish at 5 so I thought I might be able to gather a good guess at least before getting it since I didnt want to just end up buying a roo, and he found that annoying that I was trying to guess that, and said I was no better then a professional at predicting sex and once I excepted that and stopped looking around ksl for my holy grail then i'd be alot happier and could do more productive things with my life, then to waste ppls time ect.. And he just kept going on and on with the mean comments, just being so horrible to me I just dont get it. All I was doing was asking questions about this chick, trying to decide if I should get it since it would fit right in with my older babies

He said those things? Good grief..grump. He does always seem to be in a hurry, that's what I just told my DH. I think he was at work when I got hold of him. Friendly though. He laughed when I said I saw his add and then said, Randy? Selling Silkies? You always have LF. Then he told me about the GK's.
And, you must have seen the birds in his circle thing? He does let them out to free range. The first time I went there, I saw that beautiful back yard, and said, you don't fertilize your lawn with anything do you? Because it was so green..oh , he got a little uppity then..says, no! I know what's on my lawn, nothing is going to hurt the chickens. he he...

Thats what I was saying cynthia, I was wanting that partridge. I was just trying to get a look at the comb before I went all the way down there to get it. Just wanted to make sure its still looking girly. :s I just couldve believe how rude he was to me. I wonder if maybe his teenage daughter was texting for him? But then again, if it's his project then maybe not.

I'll take that partridge if you could grab it for me and I could meet you somewhere in provo. He was asking $5 for those older chicks last week though. Maybe you could talk him down to five?

He was very obviously rude to me . There was no mistaking that. And I am not sure why. He just kept saying he's never had anyone ask so many questions before and and that he didnt want to do this fruitless excersize with me over a ten dollar chicken, and he'll sell it to someone else less difficult He said alot of rude things and I was very surprised cause it came out of nowhere. But yes I did want to get that partridge.

(Update) Well according to his ad, it looks like he sold the partridge already.. Oh well I guess. Well I 'was' wanting it, and wouldve gotten it if he had not turned into a jerk. Oh well, guess I will stick with trying to find splash.

My friend that sent me the last silkie eggs..the ones that I did not want to part with, is going to send me some chicks for free. Because, I mentioned that I wanted to breed, and some of these, including the paint, doesn't have great toes. She can't figure out why. She's been talking with others, and she can't figure out why, because she never gets bad toes from her hatches. Then, she and some others thought X-Ray. Only makes sense! Her birds are fine. Bad temps in the bator don't make for bad toes. Has to be it. I keep saying, when folks are sending eggs, they need NOT put anything on the packages..it only makes them more susceptible of being X-rayed, or shaken by some bored P.O. handler. Just send the box. Doesn't make much of a difference in how it's handled anyway. Unless, Like I said, someone wants to be cruel.

Iluv, just call him, he won't know it's you. lol..just don't ask a lot of questions. Tell him that Cynthia said that the partridge may still be available. That one and a couple of others are pending pick up..so, may be gone tonight, he has to wait and see. He said he would let me know if they went, but that was before I told him I didn't want them once I found out I wanted muffys.

I was just a customer interested in one of his chicks and asked a few questions and he treated me horribly and unprofessionally, and I cant forgive that. I dont care how nice he seems now. You shouldve heard how he talked to me yesterday. If it were your daughter, you'd probably have attacked him lol.
