Utah!

Ace, I should take a photo of one of my favs. She is an EE. Oh boy, petty colors, you would think by the dark orange and blue, that it's a boy, but it's a girl. :)

Well, he has to go. That collar does not work. I've tightened it..don't dare tighten it any more! So, I have him on ksl right now, but if anyone is interested in him, I can let him go to someone on here for 10 dollars.

He's about 5 months old. Will get a much bigger muff/beard. I am sad that the collar didn't work. Wonder if it will on another roo. Guess I could try.
Sorry to hear! Is this the same white one you said you've been watching & hoping it could be a pullet or is it a different one?

Lisan1984, I'll bet it's a duck egg. Chickens seem to need a bare minimum of 4.5 months before they're old enough to lay, usually longer. My turkeys didn't start laying until they were close to a year old, from what I saw.

Ace, your coop looks great! Good job! I still need to get some feed bags to you for hand bags :) My husband thought I was a goofball for that, but I don't care.

Cynthia, sorry about the roo collar. That boy is gorgeous.

Oooh some people make me so mad! I went out to feed this morning and found one of my roosters with a bunch of string wrapped around his legs. It looked like someone tried to tie them together and he got away, but he was having trouble walking. There was no string or cloth anywhere near that pen yesterday  Just one more reminder to get a memory card for my game cam. Makes me so mad!

I'm so sorry! I'm upset just hearing about it! Have you had things like this happen before or have any idea of who would have done it? I'm so glad that he got away! Is he ok?

Iluv, this is the one I wanted to be a rooster. I was hoping the collar would work so I could breed. My hubby is out picking cherries, says, I just heard the little roo..that wasn't very loud. Well, he woke me up right at 6 this morning. My window is further away than where he is from the neighbors bedroom window. :/

Any chance you could just kennel him in your garage at night? A pain, but it works if you have the time and want to do it....
He sure is beautiful! I would love to put him with my white silkies, I just don't know how to keep all these beautiful silkie roos in the one pen, I need to separate out the colors and do a few pens I think :p

QUESTION: Broody mamas. What do you guys do for water? If I put a little waterer on the ground that the chicks can reach, it gets filled with dirt from the hens scratching. Or shavings if I put it in the coop. Or the hens drink it in a flash. Is there a trick that I am missing here, what do you guys do?

so sorry it didn't work! :( I'm attempting my rooster collar 2.0 on my roo... hoping it will work (first one didn't work because of my own design flaw). If I can't get him to stop crowing before the end of the month, he'll go join his brothers at my sister's house.... and my grandma really won't be happy about that.... because this one is the noisiest so far.... and will crow many times, all through the day. (really bad to have one of those when you're trying to stay under the radar lol)
