Utah!

So the Cochin has all 4 chicks again this morning. Do you think the Silkie would totally freak out if I take her out of the "baby hutch" and put her back out in the other next box with the other broody Silkie. Mind you that she is not sitting on any eggs. Nor has she really been sitting on anything for over a week. Kind of hilarious, its like she knows she needs to sit, so she just sits. LOL

thats a broody for you. take her out and see what happens. she just has an internal clock and knows she needs to sit longer

Well, I sold my OEGB rooster. Turns out the kid said he was a golden duckwing. I guess they're kind of rare, so this kid got a steal

(he was only about 15 - 17 yrs old) but he's starting up breeding OEGB's again. Thank goodness he's not going to be put on the dinner table...

I just hope the little guy likes his new home.... always hard to give up the things you're attached to

oh, and for the record... this kid called up at 6:40 am!!!

I don't get up until at least 8 (that'll change next year when school starts :p ) and he agreed to come pick up at 10 am.... well... 2 hours, and 2 phonecalls to him later... he finally comes to get him :p

OMG, I feel so bad, I sold that little White Silkie to Amanda (abkoldewyn) And she just texted me and say that she is attacking her other Silkies and even drew blood. I'm so upset I can't even tell you. I feel so bad that it hurt her other chicks. I'm really hoping that its just trying to establish being there, because I feel awful. She was really on the bottom here, and would just follow all the other girls around. I've never had any issues with her at all.

On the other note, Sundance... How do you suggest to break the Silkies, I have 2, the one that just been sitting for about 1 1/2 weeks now on NO EGGS, and then I have the other Silkie that I gave 2 eggs 2 when the eggs were about 12-13 days along, and she hatched them. But those 2 chicks do not stay with her, they run to the Cochin. The Silkie just seems to want to sit in the box like she is on eggs.

Don't feel bad! When you put new birds together that do not know each other, it can go either way. You usually have to go very slowly with birds that age and give them playdates (they will be brutal ones though lol) before fully putting them together!

Karen! Don't feel bad for one more second!!! She's actually being very sweet with my other little silkies. She and my little cochin roo are the ones that had to battle it out for a minute. I was just surprised when she tore my roos comb and wattle. I was really nervous about whether or not my Orps would be nice to her but she put them in their place right quick! Maybe it's normal? I'm super new to chickens and I'm still trying to figure out what normal is...
I'm just wondering if maybe he is a she? Other than that, she's a total sweetheart! My daughter is absolutely in love with her!

Here she is with the little silkies. She is totally fine with them! (You can see Tough Guy in the corner, sulking)

Here's a comb shot...could she be a he?

p.s. Karen, your chicks are absolutely adorable! And that cochin is such a good little mama!

OMG, is that blood on her feathers, I'm truly sorry. I feel so bad. Here is some other photos of her, taken the last few days if anyone thinks that she might be a he. I posted her on the Silkie thread and they thought she was a girl. 4 months old, no crowing either, at least not here.

Here is a link to a blog post on the subject. I hope it helps: http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/05/broody-breaker-when-hens-mood-to-hatch.html

No more apologizing! It's all on me! The more I watch her, I think she's a she. :) I'm sure I just pushed things way, way, way too fast! For some reason I thought...she's a silkie, she'll be super submissive and I can throw them all together and everyone will immediately be bffs. Duh! I don't know what I was thinking! When I introduced my other two groups I separated my run and coop with hardware cloth and they lived like that for 3 weeks before I took it out... She's now in the grow-out pen and will hang out there for a week or two before I try letting them hang out again. :)
