Lisa, here is the Rhodebar I was telling you I hatched from RMRippy. She's so pretty, but..I also told you that she didn't have her wings out yesterday, she does today. I still haven't seen her pant though. Tough little thing.

That is a GOOD looking chicken! Might have to add those eggs to my list from her next year. Your babies are all so cute too! you have definitely got some great ones to watch for this season. Good luck keeping that bator packed up! Should we all start making sidebets on whether or not you can do it ? (That's a tough temptation to avoid for sure!)

Good morning Utah!

The chicken bus is fueled and ready for launch. We are just waiting for our payload to be delivered, so that later in the day we can deploy that valuable package. It seems like a good day for some Grateful Dead tunes to keep us 'Trucking' down the I-15 freeway south bound, so the playlist is set. Karole will be the pilot for todays launch, I will be in the copilot seat for this trip.

Our main mission is to pickup a Barred Rock rooster in orbit around Holiday, but we will also be delivering the above noted payload from one BYC member to another that lives down the road a few miles from BYU. This will be the maiden launch of the chicken bus. Perhaps if we do well enough we will be able to ferry other precious cargo around the state, as well as southeastern Idaho. Today's bus will be the cream colored four door Ford F-150 with adobe trim on the bottom. We are excited to meet our very first local BYC members.

We were up late doing fireworks with the family, after watching the Cache Valley cruise in, last evening. So we starting out a tad late today. A very nice 4th of July weekend for sure! Summer looks to be hot this year.

Anyway I'm off to feed and check up on the birds, perhaps a little tinkering around the place as well. But mostly a slow day, after painting for the two days prior, a rest day is in order.

Hey Utah friends, I will be in Logan next weekend and can be a chicken train from SE Idaho to there and back if anyone needs it.

I'm looking for any barnevelders or bresse that anyone might have extra of, come to think if it a blue/white polish would be awesome and maybe some marans or a welsummer....

Sheesh, I better stop or the truck will be full of birds for myself!

LOL..Lisa. Yes, I am really tired now. It's funny though. I will look at the clock at three and think, I need to turn eggs by 4. I would turn eggs by three or four. Then at night, I need to turn eggs before I go to bed. Nope. I just have the babies in there for now, and they will be going out to the nursery as soon as they are eating and drinking real well. Then, no eggs or chicks in my house! Will be washing walls down. Cleaning floor boards. It will be nice to have that room again.
I may hatch some next year. Will see. There are so many cute ones on here for sale, and not always roosters. I can go between a .. just in shipment from Cal Ranch..and from you guys on here.
Lisa you have some beautiful eggs. If any of DMRippy babies grow up to lay nice dark eggs, and you hatch next spring, I may want to try a little girl. That's if you get a few. Probably something else too. Like I said, I am loving that white NN! She has feathered feet..too cute.

Ok. Two days ago I couldn't find one of my chickens. I figured it was probably at the neighbors. I couldn't see it at night and looked around for a while, but couldn't find it!!!

The next day I got a feeling to go look behind the coop. Sure enough, the chicken was dead with its head under the coop. The distance between the coop and floor was probably about 3 or 4 inches (plenty of room to not get your head stuck in it!) Any idea why this may have happened? The chicken was an Easter chick, so about 12 weeks old. No other chickens are showing signs of sickness, and they my whole back yard to find shade in. They always have access to water as well...

Any ideas?!?

was it bloody, any feathers torn out? Wounds? Teeth marks? Hmm.. if not it almost Makes no sense..

Well the chicken bus has returned home safe and sound just now. Had a lovely day meeting nice BYC members and spouses. We made an exceptionally well timed transfer of the two birds going south. Then it was Mexican food for lunch, that was good too. Next we went to pick up our lovely new rooster. We asked if he had a name and since he did not we decided to call him RC (Rooster Cogburn). He is staying the night in the new coop, its first occupant. He is letting the world know there is a new sheriff in town. That boy can crow! I'll put him in a pen with the other birds for a week or ten days, for everyone to get used to each other, and then see what happens.

Thank you pfrosty for the very nice Barred Rock rooster, it was worth the six hours it took us to retrieve him. You and your nice family can feel good that he is in a safe new home where he is wanted and welcome. Thank You.

The two lovely BYC ladies I met today, that was all just a lot of fun for me and the dear wife. We enjoyed the visit/drop off, and the pickup at IEKA. A nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon. It was hot down SLC way today, 102 F was the peak temp we saw. Good thing we just had the heat tiles fixed up for this voyage…
