Red! Hard question! I've only had one of lots of breeds and the rest have been mixes. Out of pure reds, my favorite has been the Australorp, but I am loving my teenage fluffy britches buff Orp.

My favorite mix? My leghorn cross crossed with a French copper maran.

Mad chicken - Bwahaha! Very fluffy!

Wow, lots of good answers on the chicken breed question. I think I'd have to go with the BR, but RIR are tempting. I know DH likes the classic look of the BR's. Anyone else want to play?

I am off to bed, but seeing that gray thing growing on MadChickens head is very disturbing. I don't think children should see it. Hope I can clear this burn in mental image from my mind as I drift off… might have nightmares. Very disturbing to say the least.

Oh, and when my new rooster, Rooster Cogburn, lays his first egg, I will post a photograph and perhaps look into having it preserved in some way. I'll be looking forward to this for sure.

I love the HRIR's, the Sexlinks, and leghorns for being laying machines. Those sexlinks are die hards. Soon to find out if the NN's are as sturdy as they say, and I have a Barred Rock getting ready to lay..hopefully by the end of the month, or first of the month, then I'll see if she is what I call a die hard in laying
