Utah!

I love me a white leghorn. Took some selfies for Austin today. Had to send him a chicken picture. This girl just started laying last week, 7 days in a row. Took today off. First day since her very first egg. They usually lay for a day or two when they start, then there is a break..most hens that is..not the leghorn! Always sweet birds. I love them. This girl has a floppy comb already. Will be more floppy if it's this way already! All of mine are called Miss Piggy, because they are! They love their treats. I have a hen that is finishing up her mom..ness. lol...she will be for sale in a few days.

I am amazed at my leghorn. She is a smaller bird but her eggs are huge. and she never misses a day. They are sizzle ee cross but seem smaller than usual. Its pretty funny to see that great big hen with those two tiny babies

Ooh, by chance could this one yellow one that I hatched be a leghorn mix? Going to be white. It did come from a brown egg though..so thinking NN. ~ Pretty sure it came from a brown egg. :) Pretty sure it's a girl. I want to keep her. Bet she will lay great.

Aww she's really pretty. Was she darker as a chick? Does she have a vault or just an awesome crest? I love how light her body is, and how she kept the dark head. So pretty:)

Yes she was dark as a chick, and has gotten that silver in her now. The white one is her sister both are from Gary, same hatch. I have no idea what color she really is, I've been told a few different things. Mostly Porcelain, but who knows.

Ooh Cynthia, your Leghorn girl is so pretty! I love her little face and the look she is giving you :) Those Leghorns have such fun personalities.

I was down in Delta for part of the weekend, and our property there is near some commercial egg farms. It gave me the itch again to see if they would sell me a few of their "spent" hens so that I could take them home and rehab them and love them. I have no idea if they would be Leghorn or Production Red, but I really don't care. I just hate the thought of all those poor girls crammed in cages with no daylight or breaks or grass.

Red .. go for it! I bet they would let you. Unless there is some weird law that says no, and you would need a permit of sorts. It never hurts to ask I always say. Those chickens would soo love it!

Thanks! I think if I offered to pay for them, they'd be more inclined to say yes. It won't be right away, but I do want to try at some point. Right now I have too many birds, as it is, since I guess Tooele has a limit of 8 and I have 12. Boooo.

Yay, I finally sold my wood shed today so now I could pay to have a coop built :) And I have someone picking up my lil splash roo this evening. Feels like a successful day so far :) Now if only I could find a breeder in Utah who breeds for paints then i'd be all set lol. I looked into shipping chicks and its just too expensive and im not sure its the right time for me to hatch my own just yet. Please let me know if anyone knows where I might find one. I think it would complete my rainbow of silkies.. for now lol.

Iluv--Here is a pic of both of them.

The Silkies' toes are perfect, she is from SQ birds, so should be nice. (It just stepped in poop though! I still have them on paper towels to keep the dust down in the garage.)

The color looks to be a true partridge, or maybe a blue partridge..the color is more black on the wings than the pic looks

Pm me if you are interested

Hey Lisa, how is this lil one looking? I was thinking about it, and I think i'd still like to get it if you have it. Is it starting to look like a dark blue or is it looking like a true brown partridge? Do you have recent pics to show how its coloring? How old is it now? And is its comb looking more girly or more roo? Sorry for all the questions lol.

In the continuing sage of Rooster Cogburn, I've a few new photos for pfrosty and family. And an interesting event which transpired this evening. We were giving some fresh uncooked corn to the birds this evening. RC presided over the event in his usual majestic style. When all of a sudden, a stupid dog came through the yard, we are just sitting out there on the lawn, enjoying watching the birds, and before we could even say a word… RC went over and stood that mutt down. Amazing, He is doing his job, in first class style. We just love him. I am a very proud keeper of what has turned out to be a wonderful adoption into our flock of a first class Barred Rock roo.

These photos were taken just moments before we had an uproar with the dog.

My chest won't puff out quite like RC's but my pride in him makes me try anyway,

RJ
