Utah!

Wonderful coops you have! I love that they even get their own hanging flower baskets!
You must not live in a place that has chicken restrictions. We could never have such a large flock (or to me it's large! LOL)

RJ you are welcome anytime!

Cathie--yup I need to downsize a bit. Lol. The hatching catches up to me!

I just sold 11 hens today. Working on another 20 or so. I am tired of cleaning coops so frequently and buying so much feed. I am blessed, I have been finding some wonderful homes for my girls to go to, and they will be happy to have more room to roam about. For awhile they were picking on each other, but it seems to have stopped, everybody is getting nice new pin feathers in, and looking good! I did a bug check this morning, have not checked for quite a while, and I was so thrilled to not find one critter anywhere in sight. Lots of wood ash from camping, seems to be working. I want to get one of those kiddie pools and put sand and wood ash in it for the fall. If anyone sees one on clearance anywhere holler! I think they will love having a designated place to dustbathe, right now they all crowd in the corner of the run, and they are digging it so deep the poles are sinking into the ground. We crowbarred it out, and set bricks under there for now, but they were working on sinking it again this morning. They love that corner for some reason. Stinkers. I let them out all over the yard, and they loved it...but found my garden eventually and playtime had to end.

My silkies/showgirls are all going broody again, so I will set the last batch of eggs this week. Liz is hatching 30 or so for me (probably more quitters by now) and I have 30 here... So, keeping only a few for continuing to breed to the next generation, there should be some fluffy babies available soon. I will be so glad to be done. One brooder left....then done!

***I know, I know, I have said I am done, like 10 times now. :p

Lisa, the coops look great, and I love your chickies. You have some nice birds, and I also love your frizzle NN. :)

Walmart had small new for $10 a few weeks ago.

Only 6 out of 7 made it. 4 splash, 2 with high vaults and big beards. 1 partridge and one odd color. The odd one kind of looks like a splash but has red on its head and neck only and not on its body.

Thanks for the info, will check it out :D

Gary----gorgeous babies!

Cathie--was it you that asked about a Barred Rock? The other girl decided not to add to her numbers, so it is still up for grabs if you are interested. She is 13 months old, very sweet, and lays a pretty tan egg with little brown specks every day. She is coming out of a minor molt, and getting feathers back in around her neck, she laid through the molt and is still going strong. If it was not Cathie...whoever asked...let me know, I can't remember for sure.

Just a week ago last Sunday, on the 20th, I got my very first ever egg! Yay!!!
And I missed it. I was lazing by the pool at the condo in St George when my friend texted me a pic of the custest teeny, tiny silkie egg I've ever seen. Happy dance!!! I was so ridiculously excited but kinda bummed that I missed it.

But, Popcorn, the sweet little hen that I got from Karen, has more than made up for deciding to lay while I was out of town. This girl is amazing! She has only missed one day since then. She took the 24th off because it was a holiday. :)

This is what happened yesterday...

Two!!! One in the morning and one in the afternoon.
If I hadn't seen her lay both of them with my own 2 eyes I would have thought That someone else was laying. I didn't think silkies were very good layers, but this girl is awesome! And on an off again on again rainy day! Crazy!

Yes it was me who is considering adding an older hen to the flock but as I am a very new chicken herder I am wondering how she will fit in the current bunch?
I have 5 hens all about the same age with two that were raised together for the first half of their short life and 3 who were together at my house. They are getting along nicely so how do you think adding a new but older hen will work? They range from about 17 weeks to maybe 20 weeks or so.
Also if I am in AF how will we work out the exchange?
I just don't want any harm to come to any of the girls and want them all to be together. We have them free range in our yard but they sleep at night in their coop all shut in. Would your BR be OK with that?

Yippee, I'm glad that she is doing good, and She really is a She! I wish my chicks that hatched with her would start laying. I have 2 of them, and nothing as of yet. Little stinkers!
