Yes it was me who is considering adding an older hen to the flock but as I am a very new chicken herder I am wondering how she will fit in the current bunch?
I have 5 hens all about the same age with two that were raised together for the first half of their short life and 3 who were together at my house.  They are getting along nicely so how do you think adding a new but older hen will work?  They range from about 17 weeks to maybe 20 weeks or so.
Also if I am in AF how will we work out the exchange?
I just don't want any harm to come to any of the girls and want them all to be together.  We have them free range in our yard but they sleep at night in their coop all shut in.  Would your BR be OK with that?

Absolutely, positively, No Idea! Haha. It is always different, with every group. The sweetest bird can anger another, I have had birds I added and no one paid any attention at all, and I have added birds that sent everyone into a frenzy. It can go either way. It always works out in the end, but it can take an hour, or two weeks, to get them all adjusted.

If you decide you want it let me know, we can see if there is a chicken train going your way. Quite a few here from Logan and South of Salt Lake, we can see if anyone is going. I am going on Aug 5th to SLC, but headed to a concert again after work so not lots of time before it starts to go very far off the path, but if you knew someone in the area I could drop it off to on our way there I certainly would! We did the same route last week, and ran later than we thought due to ridiculous rush hour traffic. So last time I was planning on being in SLC at 5:30, but it will be more like 6:00 with good traffic, possibly as late as 6:30.

Just a week ago last Sunday, on the 20th, I got my very first ever egg! Yay!!!
And I missed it. I was lazing by the pool at the condo in St George when my friend texted me a pic of the custest teeny, tiny silkie egg I've ever seen. Happy dance!!! I was so ridiculously excited but kinda bummed that I missed it.

But, Popcorn, the sweet little hen that I got from Karen, has more than made up for deciding to lay while I was out of town. This girl is amazing! She has only missed one day since then. She took the 24th off because it was a holiday.

This is what happened yesterday...

Two!!! One in the morning and one in the afternoon.
If I hadn't seen her lay both of them with my own 2 eyes I would have thought That someone else was laying. I didn't think silkies were very good layers, but this girl is awesome! And on an off again on again rainy day! Crazy!

With her BFF Yellow-Rainbow-Sparkle-Hat (my 4 yr old named her)
These two are inseparable
Yay! Congrats. Those two sure look cute together :)

OK Lisa
I have a SIL over in South Jordan off of Bangerter but no one actually north of about 70th south.
I can drive up that way if we can find a meeting place as long as it's NOT downtown! LOL
can you PM me and we can share info to work this out?

Finally got two eggs this morning when I opened the coop. One was smashed on the floor of the coop and the other is a soft egg with a "rip" in the shell. I am not discouraged though as I think this means two more finally laying.

When my beautiful splash silkie decided that he wanted to be a boy I thought I would hang on to him and use him for breeding. Now after a more realistic look at my life I'm realizing that I just don't have the time right now. He is such a great guy that I would love to find a good home for him. :)

Hi all, just joined BYC and wanted to introduce myself. I'm in Saratoga Springs. We bought our first house a year ago and got our first flock of 5 hens this March, and just last week we got our first two eggs!

Need to re-home a few roosters. I have 1ea. 16 week old white and buff silkie roosters. 1, 24 week old bantam blue cochen rooster. And a 15 week old buff polish rooster. I'm in Syracuse.
PM me if want to pick up one, or all.

Missy had 4 pups today. Thinking she's done, guess she could have another tonight. That's strange, only 4 from a Golden R. Oh well, they will be fat and sassy little things with all of that milk.
Two blacks..opposite sex.. two creams..opposite sex. One of each in each color. :)
