Utah!

Home a day early from the hunt and too far behind on the thread to catch up right now. Had fun camping, but another party swiped the buck we shot before we found him. Plus, a bunch of our birds were out of their pens when we got home, and I lost two of my Icelandic chicks. No idea what happened. So not terribly happy about that right now.

Hope everyone is doing okay, sorry to come on and be a rain cloud. I am just kind of sick about my babies and needed to vent.

Sorry Red, no fun losing baby chicks. :(

We also had a buck taken from us years ago. Shot it across a ridge, watched it go down, went right to it after hiking down through the bottom, and there were several people there saying they had shot it! Oh well, no fighting over it, we got one later. Man, that is just not right. How can folks do that?

Well,

I have an egg. Not very big, but a lovely tannish brown in color. I was not expecting one for another week or two. Nonetheless… we are some happy campers round here today. First eggs are cool.

Red, sorry bout that dark cloud following you around.

Hope the rest of you are doing good,

Congrats, RJ! I hope it is tasty.

Thank you for the sympathy. I am considering collecting more eggs for the dreaded incubator. I am sooo not happy that I lost my coveted black Icelandic! I lost one of my bloodlines, too. Phooey!

So sorry to hear about your loss Red :( I just had a neighbor that lost 5 of her 6 chickens to her dogs while she was at work..... really sucks when that happens.

As for the buck, that's just ridiculous claims that people make... maybe if people do that to you again, say you'll hire a forensic investigator to see which person's bullet is in the deer ;)

And RJ congrats on the egg! I love the excitement of a first time layer :D

Well, I found a home for the EE that was found by Iluv up the canyon. I just have the NH Red left, she still thinks she has to be boss, and challenge through the fence lol. But she is sweet. still growing back some feathers from being mounted... A LOT.... and possibly some molting. I have not seen an egg from her yet (but given that she may be stressed and/or molting she may not be interested or feel safe).... I'll be keeping an eye out for sure.

I'm sorry.
