Ok... So I think I may start a mini breeding project! My current goal is to create a dual purpose chicken that requires little feed but is a great layer, especially in a color other than plain white. I am thinking a big dark egg will be te goal as well. I am also trying to stay away from the hard core broody gene too. Any ideas? Right now I have a big buff Orp roo and two smaller barred rock x wheaten Ameracauna cockerels. My hens are white leghorn crosses, a silver laced Wyandotte, a wheaten Ameracauna, and a cuckoo marans.

Tips? Ideas? Etc. this idea is in the developmental stage. :)
 
Lisa, did you tell me you were going to start crossing a frizzle with showgirls? If so.. I found people doing it too. They call it a Shizzle. Search for it on BYC and some threads pop up.

Yes! I read that on the showgirls thread...a group on facebook is working on them, so fun! A lot are crossing bantam frizzled cochins with showgirls, I am trying to stick with frizzled silkies only for now, we will see how it goes! All I hatch are boys that are frizzled and girls that are smooth. Poo.
I have some growing out that I am hoping to use to breed some more in the spring, putting the frizzled showgirl offspring back with a silkie roo. The egg you hatched is one of them, it had a 50/50 chance of being showgirl or silkie and 50/50 chance of frizzling or being a smooth sizzle. Any curly feathers starting by chance?

Oh Sundance, this reminds me I have been meaning to tell you Ernie is getting the prettiest fluffy tail and feathers all over his feet again. I will need to get a pic to share for you! He looks so pretty right now! He has been busy making some cute babies :D
 
Check out what one of our daughters did. Austin just out in the beginning of his mission, and Austin's photo taken about two months ago. I think he has grown up some. :)
 
He everyone. I'm doin a hatch and need some more fertile eggs . My ladies have slowed down alot so if I could buy some from anyone (with the breeds I like ) I'd be happy to . I need about 30. Mat 8019153337
 
Cynthia, that picture looks great. I'll bet you are pretty excited for the big day :)

I'm starting to think I've been around my chickens too much, lol. I am so tired with the lessening daylight. Is anyone else struggling with energy? Maybe I need a lamp on in my room, hahaha ;)
