Utah!

Why oh Why did they have to email me about the New Years hatch a long. Now I'm sitting here thing about eggs. But then I'm stuck with the fuzzy butts till like March inside the house. But I could have Jan 1st fuzzy's....
Talk about timing. I just set 13 eggs last night. Should hatch Dec 9-11, just in time to get in on the new years hatch a long. I took the disk out of my Mini Adv. and was able to fit 13 Silkie/Sizzle eggs in side.

Cynthia some of these eggs are from the splash i got from you. I cant wait to see how they turn out.

Has anyone ever used one of these? http://incubatorwarehouse.com/225-watt-cabinet-incukit.html
I am seeing both good and bad reviews.

even with it being winter one of my hens is still holding out and wanting to sleep in the run on a metal feed can. does not make much sense to me but i guess its where she is most comfortable. she has always been one that likes the cold weather

Haha. I think we humans have a few of those outliers as well. It always surprises me to see adults with tshirts on in this freezing weather!

I have some laying hens I have to sell soon, and I need to find someone in Utah to sell them to. Would it be appropriate to post them here? Unfortunately the buy/sell area doesn't let you search based on location, and I couldn't figure out how to gauge wether or not my prices were fair or if anyone would even want them around where I live, or how to get the right people the message. So I'de like to post it here, but if that would be annoying, I wont bother.

. Whatcha got?

Yes! Right place. Lisa likes to call it "enabling"... Haha

Here is the ad I was thinking of posting on KSL, I know its WAY too much text (written mainly for a general audience that doesn't know everything about chickens), and btw not sure I am ready just yet to part with them, but what do you guys think?:

Title: Flock of 8 Laying Hens and All Their Stuff For Sale - Very Tame, Healthy - Free For Whoever Can Provide Them a Nice Home!

Description: "I have a flock of 8 laying hens for sale, all heritage breeds/mixes. Only a year and 3 months old, still in their prime laying years. $10 each unless you are willing to go out of your way to reassure me that they will be loved (see below).

4 Barred Plymouth Rocks.

3 Buff Orpingtons.

and 1 Buff Orpington/Rhode Island Red mix.

All female.

Right now they are going through a molt, so are not laying very much and are kinda scraggly right now, but they will start laying more come spring and looking like the cute little fluffy butts they are in no time. See their pictures for what they will look like when they fill out.

I raised them from baby chicks myself and they are all really friendly. They come when I call them (if they aren't already occupied with food. Nothing is more important than food). Some don't liked being picked up very much, but they will all hang out around you, eat out of your hand, hop on your lap, shoulder...sit on your face (heh), etc.

I have been giving them continuous care, and as far as I can tell, they are happy and healthy, no egg eating problems, attitude issues, etc. (ok, some are a little dumb).

I would like to just give them away, but I am worried about people using them as just a cheap way to stock their freezer. I would prefer to find a home that will at least let them live out their remaining egg laying days in a good environment, so if you can show me proof of a good home, and/or experience taking care of hens, THEY ARE ALL FREE! (proof might include photos of their future digs, link to a personal chicken related blog. Just saying "I promise not to eat them" doesn't count).

I also have all of their stuff to sell which includes the following (take it all for $100, allot is in great condition):
- About 40lbs of feed (minus a scoop or two, bought 2 days ago, $20)
- This Miller galvanized hanging poultry feeder: ww.amazon.com/Miller-Galvanized-Hanging-Poultry-Feeder/dp/B000VLFE6I (bought for $23)
- A 5 gal bucket hanging nipple drinker ($15)
- A Little Giant Feed scoop ($6)
- NIB Thermo Cube (Temp controlled outlet that only turns on when you need it to keep things from freezing in the winter. Was planning to hook this up to a deicer to put in their waterer)
- 2/3rds bag of pine shavings (cost me $8, but only 1/2 usable, free)
- 1 50 lb bag of new all-purpose sand (for use in the run, $3)
- 2 scrubbing brushes ($10)
- 2 scraping tools (for cleaning out their poop tray) ($2)
- Wood cleaner (1/2 gone, cost me $5)
- Whatever you can salvage of the coop and run. Everything is usable where it is, but I don't know how well they will fare in transportation. The coop can be easily detached from the run, we reinforced the roof a couple weeks ago, and will probably be good for a another year or two. Either way, lots of usable hardware, welded cloth, chicken wire, lumber, etc. (take just the coop/run for $50, but this is included in the $100 for everything).

Pickup, cash, and text/call only. If you call, leave a message and I will get back to you."

This is really hard just FYI. My babies!
