Utah!

I'm going to start working on my breeding pens. I was juggling the roosters this morning (no, not literally!) and trying to see which boys I wanted with which ladies. I do believe I have a solution for the time being :D Now to make sure everyone's all healthy and ready to go!

Ace, I would never wish that on you! I do it to myself all the time, so I understand that agony, lol!

Hey mind if I pop in here? I live in southern Utah (St. George) and I am wondering if there's anyone else down here that shares my obsession for my birds. I just ordered a bunch of hatching eggs but I'd love to find some local if there is anyone in the area.

Come on in! We have a few members in your neck of the woods that check in every so often.

Guys! I am so happy!

I candled my eggs for the Vday hatch along and they are doing much better than I thought. I rarely see my marans Roo mating these days, but the frizzle EE's are all fertile, so I can hatch olive eggers, yay. Some of the SBEL's were too, but not very many yet.

And all my silkie/SG eggs were fertile but 2 so I was pretty excited, I can never see bullseyes when I look at them so I did not think they were fertile yet.

My FBCM Roo is really getting beat up by the ladies. His tail is completely gone, and he has a scab they won't leave alone. I keep putting Rooster Booster No-Pick on it, and taking him out of the run during the day, but they just keep picking at it in the mornings before I get out there to remove him. He is otherwise quite healthy, I have checked him for bugs and dusted him, I wish they would stop. He was so pretty and now he looks just awful. It makes me sad because it takes soooo long to get the pretty feathers back. Any other ideas? I tried the bitter spray too and it is not deterring them enough. I just think they are sick of being cooped and are bored. I know I need to get the numbers back down in that run, but until then are there any other topical solutions out there that any of you know about? I can't bandage it, its on the tip of his "parson's nose" haha :D

Hello Utah Chicken People

I am new here. I'm looking for hatching eggs. Welsummers, Delawares, Buff Rocks.

Welcome! Where are you located in the beehive state? Oooh, buff rocks are on my "someday" list.

Lisa, you may need to either separate him until he heals up or turn the ladies loose. My Icelandics do that when they've been penned all winter. The worst part is my boys just stand there and let them do it! I have had the best luck with separation, followed by frequent free ranging.

@hardscrabble welcome

@La Casa de Pollo I have only seen my FBCM roo mate once and that was to my Blue Silkie. However judging by the backs of my EEs and Australorp, he seems to be doing his job. He did get pickeed on by the ladies when I first got him, but now he has asserted his dominance.

Unfortunately I don't think mine will assert dominance anytime soon...he is four yrs old and such a big sweet baby. I really do love him, he even lets chicks sit underneath him. He just won't stand up for himself at all.

Red, I am going to have to let them out for a bit, hopefully that will help. Thanks for the input! They need something to do! The grass is already starting to green up some, maybe I will let them out to forage around today for a bit. **Can you believe this weather?!?! Loving it. Our forecast says 60 on Thursday., woot!

Hey everybody, My name is Sarah. Still kinda new to this thread. I check every once in a while. I love to heaar your stories about your chickens. Mys sister got a new camera for christmas and I asjked her to take a few of my chickens. They turned out well I think. My poor Blue rooster got some frostbite this year. Poor thing.
