Well I went to Cal Ranch and picked up a couple of those mouse catchers, more or less like the ones Cynthia posted pictures of. I will let you know how they go… and a body count to boot if I catch one or some. Oh, and I named them with my labeler: "The Bates Motel" and "Hotel California" you know the line, "You can check out anytime you please, but you can never leave."

With the good weather, I have been doing a lot of little chicken chores round about the place. Things that did not get done before that cold spell in November. It is just so nice to be out and spend a little time with the birds. It is so nice to see you guys/gals hatching. At some point in time, I might try my hand at it…

Best to all and your birds,

RJ

RJ, let us know for sure how they work..love the names..lol!

Once you've used it for a while, need to be sure they are clean of debree, like straw or shavings. It will get caught up in the the thing that closes on them, then they can squeeze out of the tiniest little opening.
Good luck. I personally think the Bates Motel will catch more...

LOL, Cynthia, I have high hopes for those new fangled traps. A most pleasant afternoon spent puttering around with the birds. Karole snapped this shot of Oreo out back this evening. That would be me sitting inside the door of my Banty coop. I like my large fowl a lot, Barred Rocks being a nod to the black and white fetish I seem to have going on. But I just adore the Banty's. Full of spunk and just active as heck. These young birds, born in the first week of July, 2014 are hitting their stride in high style. So often youth is wasted on the young, but not so with this batch of birds. Their peak of perfection coinciding with this sweet weather, is as good as it can get.

Hope everyone enjoyed their day,

RJ

It would seem that the DW has a few more shots that I would like to share. Some of you have met Jack, prior and he is or was out strutting his stuff in the late afternoon sun today. I believe that is Joe, at right. Every one is just feeling their oats around my place.

This is one of my OEGB BBR Banty roos. Everyones colors are just in what seems to me, tip top condition. The iridescent sheen of the birds is just a thing of beauty, and the combs have come through the so called winter plump and a nice healthy red color. I've to get a rooster pen going… the boys are feeling a bit to 'healthy' for everyones benefit. (wink, wink).

Both my hens and roos are being a simple joy to attend to. I am not sure what could bring more joy/pride/happines to a bird fancier. We are having a good time here with our flocks. I would hope that I am not alone in this. I would hope each of us has had a knock out winter and the birds all the better for same.

Best to all of you and your birds,

RJ

Decisions, decisions. I think im going to sell all my other colors, and just focus on paints for now. And it's going to be very hard letting them go, but I think it's the best thing I should do so that I could become more seriously involved in my paint projects :)
