Utah!

Good Guess Red, Haha, I miss that game "What does Sphinx have in her trunk from CAL ranch?" So fun, good times.

Cynthia--Gus--Okay about the FBCM....I am hatching these but sadly I have not filled pre-ordered chicks yet--a lot of my eggs have been clear due to my roo getting his butt kicked by the ladies, it is shameful.

However, I am happy to report hatchling numbers should be up in a few weeks, I am picking up a new Rooster tomorrow in Idaho and between the two boys many more Marans girls should be covered. I will have Black Copper, Blue Copper, Splash, Golden Cuckoo, Wheaten, and Black Tail Buff Marans ladies paired up with two Blue Copper marans Roosters. They better start getting busy, I am not getting enough chicks. My eggs from ladycats will hatch soon also, those are FBCM (black) and Wheaten, but those will be for breeding stock to keep...unless I have an amazing shipped egg hatch, which never happens. I need to keep at least 6 chicks from that hatch, if there are extras I will definitely offer some up on here!

I sold 25 hens over the last few weeks, so the roosters are not going to have many options, they are going to need to be busy with the marans ladies instead of the GSL's and barred rocks. Those guys have all left the premises. They were definitely hogging all the attention, every single egg I set from them was fertile.
Eggs are decent. These are some that I set due to hatch in a week or so. The darkest ones are from my blue copper pullets :D Some of those in the bator are just mix eggs not all Marans. The ones on the left are the darker ones.

How are your eggs from Ladycat doing? I have some of her eggs that should be hatching on Tuesday and I'm having a difficult time candling them. I just know the dark masses have gotten darker.

Lisa, you have BTB Marans? Have you any pictures, please? :) I love BTB anything.

I let everyone out of their pens yesterday while DH was working on a tractor and I was planting trees. I won't quite say it was bliss, but close enough. I like doing yard work with the ladies around.

Lisa, those eggs are stunning! Don't worry about it, though. I understand pre-orders. I was actually trying to figure out how to choose between you, Cynthia, and Lpeaslee. So you've made it a little easier for me. ;)

So Cynthia and Lpeaslee, how do I choose between the two of you? Fight over me. Just kidding. I'll probably just need to go with whoever has some hatched first. My only qualifier is just that they are not cuckoo. Let me know when you have some available, and we can work out the details.

Red, I will try to fetch a pic or two for you this afternoon. The BTB looks a lot like a New Hampshire, very pretty....her name is Pisketti haha!

My favorite is the Wheaten Marans, she is n not as light as an Ameraucana, also more of a reddish but has the lighter underside, quite pretty! The wheaten lays a very shiny dark egg too, love it. The BTB does not lay a very dark egg, but they are HUGE and she lays nearly every day, she is probably my best chicken for eggs, and very sweet, love her.

Gus, I am sure you will have plenty to choose from, looks like there are lots on here with choc eggers! They seem to be a hot commodity these days :D I think Sphinx has some as well.

Peaslee, I do not even try to candle the marans, honestly, I wait til lockdown, look to see if there is an sort of darkness of lightness, chuck the lights, set the darks, and cross my fingers haha! Unfortunately last hatch I chucked over 20 lights. Only a few were fertile from mine, and I needed some new bloodlines in my Blacks, so I got some from two other breeders, but one got scrambled pretty bad in the mail. Cathy's came in decent shape; so hoping! I need to get an awesome candler like yours, loved your video, I just have an LED flashlight, it works ok but not near as well as the one you have.

My new roo comes home today, Yay! I am excited but having serious anxiety over integrating him with my ladies...it's not going to be pretty I just know it. After he gets out of time out in the big kennel, I have a separate pen set up for him, I am going to put my Golden Cuckoo Marans with him first (Sex link babies, solids will be girls) then see if I can slowly add a few of my blues.

About a month ago I thought that one of my BOs was broody, but after a week or so she snapped out of it. For the last couple of weeks she's been at it again. I think she's pretty darn serious about it this time. Should I let her sit on a few eggs or keep trying to break this broody streak?

Lisa, those eggs are beautiful!! Oh my.

Are they fertile? Man, I just may have to have you mail me some eggs for this hatch a long..then I will have a great change of getting a girl! ha ha....

Well..look who I found out there .. have had a little one crowing as long as the other, you can hardly even hear this little guy. He came from my sizzle order for the New Yrs. Day hatch a long. Feet are fluffy! Head and muff is coming in. Soo pretty. Anyone interested in him?

Cynthia, he is beautiful! And he looks so sweet. I wish I could take him for you, but it's Icelandic roos only here until I get better pens built. Drat.

Abko, I dunno? You could stick a wooden egg or a golf ball under her and see how she does, maybe. I never quite trust the flakey hens.

Lisa, sounds like a good plan with the new roo! Let us know how it goes.

I am going to a doTERRA oil class and I am going to find out the benefits of using certain oils on my chickens, dogs and bengal cats. I'm also going to see about using the oils to help ease my arthritis. I read an article that said certain oils like lavender and a few others will help treat and prevent mites and worms. I've got to learn more about this lol. I'm all for natural:)

Hope you all have a great sunday. Such nice weather out there :)
